Default turbo exhaust manifolds

Hi,

i'm looking into the available turbo exhaust manifolds, short of a custom jobbie.

I see CNK and KORE, pretty much same, stainless steel,
external wastegate port,
and the old Champion manifold from korea, not sure on its
wastegate options.
T3/4 flanges are OK, but not essential.

are there any others about? What are most boosters
using?

cheers
bry

sup bry... well yea many are going with the KORE and CNK manifold, they look kewl in the engine bay, and perform good... The champion used to be one of those that many wanted to use, but it was a hassle bringing them in, and we thank CHEUK for it but I feel many are done with that one... the Alpine one is a log type like the champion and I think is only offered with their kits, can't be purchased separately...

And there are those out there that are incorporating the mitsu manifolds to the 2.0L, but I've only seen one done on an accent if I'm not mistaken...

but that's all I know

If I remember right, the guys using a mitsu manifold had the pipes line up right and almost all the holes. They had to enlarge a couple of the bolt holes to make it fit.

Which begged the question: what happens during thermal expansion? I'm not sure if that was resolved, but I vaguely remember the discussion.

I may be selling my old manifold as well. It's new, from Onpol's shop, sized for a T3 turbine and Deltagate. My turbo project's on hold indefinitely, and I may just go ahead and get a kit the second time around. Shipping to Oz might be a pain, though.

I've had good experience with CNK, too. Good quality work (did a downpipe for me).

later,
ac

hey, thanks.

I cant get any in oz, so shipping from the US is part
of my costs.

Bat, do you mean log as in cast iron?
How does the CNK manifold hold up under thermal
expansion?

I remember Onpols manifold, from memory it had very short
runners and the flange was vertically mounted.
Is that the same as yours?

thanks

Bry, you might want to try CAPA. I know they sell Alpine's kits in Australian under their name, and I thought I remembered seeing the kit on their site.

bry, I'll take pics this weekend and post them.

Short runners, turbo hangs vertical in the center of the manifold. Wastegate port comes out the top/middle at a 45 degree angle upwards. not sure of the metal, but it was thoroughly coated in high-heat paint (outside).

Sorry Bry, I have the KORE one, so not sure on the CNK, but as of now, I have yet to see any cracking, any warping from expansion at all in my manifold, and we inspect it carefully... smile.gif

I didn't mean to imply that the CNK, Alpine, KORE, or Onpol manifolds would crack under the thermal loading. They are made for the Beta's pattern of bolts.

I think the old discussion was: if you drill out a Mitsu manifold to make it fit, would it be too tight on the studs and cause problems when it expanded?

Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Curtas I was more curious due to the stainless steel
nature of the manifolds.

I'd be keen to see your pics, thanks for that.
