So I was just taking a look at SFR's turbo kits to see the parts involved, and I noticed a turbo diffusor. What is this, what does it do, and does Tim make them?

I know what a BOV is homes... This is a Turbo Outline Diffusor according to SFR. I need to know what it does. Is it a sort of waste gate or something?

It just looks like the plumbing attachment that hangs off the hot side of the turbocharger.

I think it's what's usually called a dump pipe.

thats just the part of the downpipe that bolts onto the turbo that collects exhaust gas from the wastegate (internal) and the gas that went through the turbine and combines them into one pipe.

So if my turbo is externally gated, I do not need one of these? And on that note, what type of waste gate and where do I find it for a Garrett T3 Super 60

A diffuser is a device for utilizing part of the kinetic energy of a fluid passing through a machine by gradually increasing the cross-sectional area of the channel or chamber through which it flows so as to decrease its speed and increase its pressure. I think what SFR's kit is calling a "turbo diffuser" is just a Y-pipe that joins two airflows (exhaust flows) into one flow, "diffusing" them... rolleyes.gif

If your turbo isnt internally gated then you can just get a flange that will bolt up to the turbo and block off the hole that is there to allow you to bolt up to a internal wastegate adapter.

a flange like this

t3 turbo flange

it says t3/t4, but anybody who knows anything about turbos knows that a t3/t4 uses a turbine housing from a t3 and a compressor housing of a t4, so this would meet the demands of your t3

then weld the flange to your downpipe in the correct position

You can also get the diffuser with a dump pipe welded on there for external wastegate setup.Im getting the kit by the end of the week and thats what i ordered...
Also the diffuser flange is made for the Garrett BB turbos which are the Gt28-gt35 BB.Possily the GT40 as well might have the same flnage smile.gif

Well, I have a Garrett T3 Super 60 with an upgraded Turbonetics compressor housing. It is oil and water cooled, I will take a few pics of it tomorrow and hopefully you can guide me as to what to do with it Alex. My g/f really frowns on the fact that I keep dumping money into the tib, but I love the thing. And after seeing what a difference just a header and exhaust made after my other mods, a turbo would be sex. Pure sex.
