Default stock exhaust manifold for turbo?

ok, i was thinking about a way to use my stock exhaust manifold for a turbo. the way i see it is that i can cut off the close-coupled cat, weld on the appropriate flange, and i'm good to go. now, my questions are: 1) are there any inherent problems to doing this? 2) does the stock exhaust manifold flow well? 3) is there anything else i should be thinking about? i'm aware that i would be losing my cat and in violation of emissions laws unless i put another cat on, since i only have the close-coupled cat.

I say the stock manifold has poor flow, and will cause boost creep.

It will work on a low boot like 7psi or below.

also, you will be violation of the emissions law even if you put the cat else wehere.

removing OR relocating the CAT is illegal.

when you say "boost creep," do you mean when and how fast the waste gate opens? if you don't, then we have different ideas of boost creep and must establish what it is before we continue this discussion. furthermore, i don't think "relocating" an identical-performing catalytic coverter is in violation of any laws. removing, or replacing with a lower-performing cat might violoate certain laws. i haven't read the acutal laws.

Boost Creep is something you dont want to encounter.
I have this problem and its Not Pretty at ALL..... LET me tell you
Basically what Boost creep is High Volume of gases that cant be released through the EXIT of the wastegate and causes you to boost Higher and Higher without it being controlable.Boost creep is noticed in the Higher RPM ranges when your motor is making all its power and the opening of the wastegate is not LARGE enough.
The ONLY alternative to eliminate Boost Creep is by installing an External wastegte on your manifold near all Four collectors for the best possible solution of eliminating the creep.
In my situation my Internal wastegate is set for 5psi and as soon as im in the Higher RPM range and in Higher gears my car Boost up to 11-12psi.
Since its winter and Cold the Creeping actually rises to 14psi which i hit before i stored the car eek! eek! eek!
Hope this helps smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

holy crap 2uniq!!! have you corrected this?? what compressor are you using?? ill be using a stock t3 set at about 6psi on the low boost setting.. is theer something i should be concerned with to avoid this?? ill be using CNK manifold but still an internal wastegate on a true T3 (no hybrid) on the 1.6 alpha...
i want to be adjustable form 5-15+ boost but i DONT want that creep at the low setting..

La pulga is using the stock manifold with a slight port work and making over 40 psi of boost and 500whp.It has a t4 plate welded where the stock cat used to be.

the stock manifold may not flow as well as the kore or cnk units, but IT'S FREE!!!

The stock manifold is made of cast iron and would not be a good choice for a turbo manifold, most people will not even weld cast iron cause it is a very hard thing and with the added heat and weight from the turbo it won't be long before it crack's and fall's apart, I think you will be better off just buying one from CNK or Kore.

Yeah, thats one of things, i was just coming to add.

you cant heat wrap a stock manifold. it cant take the extra heat. So how is it going handle the heat froma turbo.

and its not really free, you still gotta modify it and that costs cash.

just get a mitsu manifold and buy a 16g
