Hey how's it going everyone,
I'm going to do a beta swap into my hyundai accent and turbo it. I got a full shopping list of things to buy and all that:
1) Complete 2.0L Engine from either '00 Elantra or '00-'01 Tiburon
2) 5 speed manual transmission from 2000 Tiburon 2.0L
3) Complete 2.0L Engine ECU/ECM and wiring harness
4) After-market Tachometer (autometer?)
5) Garrett Turbo GT28RS (spools between 2700-3500 RPM wastegate set at 12PSI)
6) All necessary turbo accessories (i.e. oil lines, intercooler and piping, bov etc.)
7) Greddy Emanage or a Standalone.

What I'm in search of is what everyone is running their beta I's at stock or with decompression plate.
I want my car to be reliable, because its my daily driver.
Realistically I want to be around 250whp.
As far as turbo goes, I can get a rebuilt T3 .42/.48 for $350, or I'm looking at the GT28RS. I want the t28 because of the ball bearing, but if i can push more out using the t3 i'll go for that because there is about a $700 difference. What is easier to find and cheaper for us as far as finding a turbo manifold with a t3/t4 flange or t28 flange. Post all your thoughts and ideas, any help is appreciated.

I went to my buddies performance shop and sat down and talked to him about this, He said I can probably get 250whp at ~10psi on stock compression. He doesnt want me to put a decompression plate on there because:
1) its not the right way to build a turbo engine.
and
2) i will lose my low-end power while I'm waiting for the turbo to spool up.
He wants me to run the T3 because he thinks the gt28rs isnt big enough for a 2.0L, but i think he's wrong on that part since a lot of people that are boosting are using this turbo. Also, as far as the spool time between the 2 turbos how much of a difference am I looking at? GT28RS spolls at 2700-3500RPM, the shop said the T3 will spoll about 500RPM above that and I won't even notice a difference. Thanks ahead of time for everybody who read this long long post and thank you very much if you reply to it.

*edit* also what kind of piggyback or stand-alone systems are you using, which produces better results. *edit*

As far as a piggyback, with our ecu's youd be best off with either SMT-6 or an Emanage.

standalone is your choice, Haltech most often, PRS and Megasquirt are also quite common

also, yah the GT28RS is fine for about the same power as the T3. and my t3 spooled by like 2500rpms

And the decompression plate isnt really the best option, but if you really want alot of power (300+) you can get forged low compression pistons and youll be fine.

so i'll be fine with 10-12PSI on the stock block?
i guess i'll get the T3 since i can get it about $800 cheaper than the gt28rs, does OBX make a turbo header for the beta? also is it worth the extra money to get the emanage ultimate? thanks for the reply fing02.gif

I have the GT28rs with haltech and it runs great. Tho i am at 15pis and only making 250hp (at 20psi it should be aroud 270-280) tho my motor is full built. If you want fast spooling I would go with the GT28. But if you want higher HP I wuld go with something in the GT30-35 rang. (what i will be doing muhahaha).

is there any other company that makes a turbo header for the beta I, the OBX one looks like it'll break easy, since its stainless steel and all, is there any ceramics out there?

performance and strength-wise which would be better? the seoulful racing one or the OBX one, because the one from kdmstuff is $600 more than i can get the OBX one for.
