Running a turbo without the intake hooked up?
For testing reasons, I want to run the turbo without the intake track connected to the engine. Has anyone tried this? The only issue I can think of is the wastegate not seeing any boost and staying closed, but I have no idea if that would hurt the turbo itself.
I don't intend to run the piss out of it, I just want to see what kind of effect the turbo is going to have on exhaust noise. A hard pull or two and some normal driving and it's off.

I'm confused.. your going to run without the cold side or without the actual intake on the turbo inlet?
because the WG will see boost if you don't have the intake piping with the filter on.
the turbo itself will quiet exhaust noise.. the srt-4 has no mufflers, stock.. but if you opened up the whole exhaust system with a new muffler it will be louder than stock obviously..
if your talking about running no cold piping, i would definitely NOT do a hard run or two.
if your talking about not having the intake on the turbo inlet, I would at least put zip tie the filter onto the inlet for now.. You could kick up a small pebble and suck it right into the turbo, then you would own a paperweight.

TurboSocks i am pretty sure he is talking about running with just with the charge pipe not connected to the IM there for the wastegate wont see boost, and wont open!
I would totally not do it, just get it done right and deal with it, why do you wanna hear it, with the pipe off, it is going to sound way diffrent under boost anyway.
