Reproggrammed Stock ECU or Haltech?
If I were to go the turbo route and need to tune my car, what is the best way to tune it? Ask someone to reprogram a Stock ECU or go Haltech?
From what I think, you can still use the stock harness with a few modifications with the reprogrammed ECU, but you cannot make changes on the fly like the Haltech.

well, i wouldn't limit my decision to either a reprogrammed stock edu or a haltech, since those are to extremes. i plan on using a greddy e-manage with my turbo setup. you could use an S-AFC in conjunction with an MDS DIS-2 unit or go with an SMT6. the e-manage, s-afc/msd combo, and smt6 are all piggy back solutions that would give you enough tuning capability for a nice turbo setup. the only advantage to using a piggy back solution is the installation ease. of course, piggy backs only give you about 60% of the capability of a full stand-alone. however, like i said, for just about any turbo setup you could put on your elantra, a piggy back would be more than sufficient. if i'm not mistaken, our maf sensors top out at about 240hp. if you're gonna convert to a map sensor, then you absolutely need a stand-alone.
if you live in Australia you should try chiptorque. they can reprogram your stock ecu to suit your turbo conversion. They have a very good reputation and i use their reprogarmed chip in my car.
if y ou get your ecu reprogramed you get all the niceties of cold start compensation, aircon idle up, factory very effective knock sensor, etc etc...
