Since our stock Pistons are rated at 200WHP i was wondering when running low compression as i want to install the Alpine Head spacer if i can run more than 200WHP since the compression is lower and safer. The compression ratio is at 8.2:1 with the spacer installed as claimed by Alpine. If i was to run 12psi and it would give me more than 200WHP after its TUNNED perfectly and is this still safe with the lowered compression!
there are people running stock engines 250+ if that answers your question. to a point, its all in the tune. tdonnel, radu and a few others i know of are runnin good numbers well over 200hp on stock pistons and compression
no, but really, this is why a lot of nooobs blow their sh*t up.. cuz they get this mis-information from people 'rating' pistons at 200whp.. wtf?
pistons aren't rated for any hp..
your car will probably never be 'tuNed' perfectly unless you spend hundreds of dollars at the dyno. and if you wanna change anything/raise the boost, be ready to spend more $$$..
i wouldn't lower the compression unless you plan on going over around 14lbs of boost on a smaller turbo. otherwise your just losing power that way..
make sure you get it tuned right, and you should be fine at 12psi on a stock motor.
if you decide to lower the compression, you will want to raise the boost higher than 12psi for sure.
what turbo are you even going to run?

Should be fine up too 300, I have a set in the garage that were run over 250hp for years , and they were heated to press wrist pins in,and they are still as good as new..

I dynoed 270whp, but raised the boost about 2psi afterwards with more fuel, so probably close to 300whp. But, I do tear my car up. I don't build cars to baby them. So, probably after about 10-15k miles, I eventually broke a ringland.
IF......I were to make a "safe" build on stock pistons, I would tune it right at 250whp, making sure there's no chance of detonation. And I wouldn't do back to back runs like I normally do.
