just be sure to have the head checked or resurfaced to be 100% sure it's straight
if you could do a crack test it would also be a good idea since you did overheat

Theres a couple way to do it. Theres the magnafluxing way, but our heads arn't cast iron to do it. 2nd there is the pressure test way. The shop will block off all passages than shoot pressure through the water jackets. The head is than submerged in water, and than air bubbles can be seen coming from the crack.

The 3rd way is penetrant dye method. They clean the head real well, than spray it with dye and let it sit for a bit. The dye will than sit and soak into the cracks. Than they wipe off the dye, and spray a light coat of developer on the head. All the cracks, if any, will shop up as bright colored lines depending on the dye color they used. This is the most common method, and the least expensive.

cool, thanks tanc, I'll have to check a couple local places to see if they do it. I actually had to quit driving it this past year when it got really hot outside, when it's not so hot it's fine.. just need to upgrade the fans.
