OK guys first off I dont want to have anything negative in this thread. I dont care! (i.e. you cant do it, its going to cost you more than boost, etc.) I am now attending The School of Automotive Machinists and I am going to have a whole lot of engine knowlegde in the next 19 months. First I am taking the engine block course for 9 months, the cylinder head after that for another nine months. At this school they let us do projects. Most people choose one of the big three v'8s. I dont feel like I want to go that route. I would rather build a bada** beta. LOL. They will have a functioning chassis dyno soon. Dyno runs will not be a problem. They also have a flowbench, so I will be able to test how much the head flows before and after. Also I will get to use their equipment for free. Labor charges will be zero! All I have to do is buy the parts. I had to get that out of the way. This is just the beginning.

Goals:
1. Have around 175-200hp, without nitrous.
2. Have more power than i8acobra, if you remember his car. He was at about 160whp.
3. Is going to be driven, everyday.
4. Want to rev about 7-8K
5. Needs to be crazy fast lol.

Parts:
1. 1.8L pistons on 2.0 rods with a XD headgasket will give me about 11:1
2. Ferrea valves and upgraded valve springs (suggestions?)
3. Port and Polish head (won't be til I am in the head class)
4. Camshafts that redzman is testing or something else. (suggestions?)
5. Tims IM or Maxxtib's (what would be best?)
6. System 65mm BBTB
7. What would be the best thing to control this beast?(Emange, SMT 6, PRS4, Standalone)
8. MSD for the ingnition? How will stock ignition stand up to this?
9. I want to run nitrous on top of this, how do you think it will handle it?

Now I just have to find a spare motor.....

A friend of mine just did this:

1.8L pistons on 2.0 rods with a XD headgasket
Port and Polish head
4-1 Headers

The car feels very good but still is to early to dyno it. Good luck!

good luck with this project..

im thinking your best fuel management option for the price would probably be the megasquirt. i think funkypc has his converted to MAP using megasquirt. its basically a really nice standalone that wires into your stock ECU i believe. (haven't done too much research on it.) you could start off using the SAFC II and see how well it works. you should be able to get most of your tuning done with this to begin with, then just upgrade if you need to.

i would probably also shave the head a lil to get higher compression.

any idea on what specs you would get the cams ground to? you probably don't wanna go too aggresive with it being a daily driver.

i know the 1.8L pistons are a good cheap swap for higher compression, but if your looking to get max power, i would look into something else. You could also see about getting custom pistons made, perhaps weisco that are bigger bore, and higher compression. (they should be able to do this) with a bigger bore you will have more displacement.

if you are wanting top end power the air ram would probably be best. tims style is more for low and mid end power i believe. i would say try finding an air ram or maybe we could work out some type of trade. (air ram would probably be better to get the higher hp numbers)

you could get some high compression pistons also to raise compression. or i believe 1.8 motor with 2.0 crank will do it

ask denisst99 for the piston , he made some custom piston 11.6 cr for the beta engine !!!

for the cam , i think the redzman cam are too small to rev over 7000 to 8000 rpm , maybe you should look something like mine or bigger !

Beta 2 head for solid lifter
custom rod and piston for better rod/stroke ratio if you whant to rev 7000-8000 rpm
modified intake , ex : bigger plenum , tuned runner with the intake cam durration .
Custom header tuned with exh cam duration

p.s. don t forget , the 2 liter engine will not be the best engine to rev 7000-8000 rpm , you will be better with hybrid engine
1.8L crank , 2L block , custom piston and rod , beta 2 head , better valves spring . . .

do it! Everyone and his brother is going turbo these days, it'd be nice to see a high powered and reliable NA tib. Basically you could do every engine mod without adding the turbo. Post and polish the head, build the engine itself. Then add all the bolt ons.

Hey man us boost heads arent against N/A power, if youve got the money for what it takes then we'll root for you till the end.

Plus, most mods that are good for N/A power are good for boost too wink1.gif so it may lead to more aftermarket support fing02.gif

Just one thing, most superduty balls to the wall N/A cars arent DD'able, so thats another obstacle for you.
