what are you guys using on your oil return lines? Mine keeps leaking. It seems to be caused by the fittings i bought at the hardware store.

I've put on some teflon tape but apparently not enough and it still leaks about a quart an oil change. Any other idea's besides a crap load of teflon tape?

you shouldnt need more than a couple complete wraps of teflon tape. like 2 layers all the way around is usually sufficient.

maybe the fittings just ahve bad tolerances? get some other ones?

i hate return lines.. but your best bet is to use AN fittings. if you are not, thats why it is probably leaking.. try and get a hard line made up, and that should solve the problem completely. mine is leaking a lil bit right now, but thats because the fitting was only JB welded in, and not welded in.

It also depends on the way you wrap the teflon tape. Try using teflon paste, i find that stuff to be better for sealing any irregularites in the fittings. But with the paste remember...A little goes a long way. and after you use it let it sit for away to cure up before starting you engine, and hour or so should be good. Let us know how you make out

GRAVITY WORKS.......I'VE TESTED IT OFTEN!!!!!!!!!!

yes teflon tape works and so does the paste, but AN fittings work 10X better and you dont have to use ANY teflon tape or paste, and never have to worry about it leaking..

hold on...

where is it leaking? at the turbo or at the fitting you welded into the oil pan?

SOCKS, actually AN fittings will leak. i see it all the time, it generally happens on the male end of the 2 fittings, but this can usually be fixed with the use of a thing called conical seals. I am not sure if you can get these from your local auto parts store. We use these to generally stop leaks on AN fittings on aircraft.

SUPERCOW...Is it an AN line?? Let me know if it is and what size it is and I will see if I have any of those size seals and i will get it to ya..

both spots it's leaking are npt, Coming out of the turbo into a brass fitting that goes from npt to an. Then you have ss hose, and then back to npt for going into the oil pan fitting.

Sounds like the Teflon tape issue. but if you get some paste it should clear up any issue you have. Also make sure that the AN fitting is seated all the way as I have seen them leak from the swivel due to not being tightened down all the way.

Im in the process of refabbing my oil line because the old one went around the downpipe and it wasnt really the greatest for flow.

i had a small oil leak for the longest time and i thought it was due to the AN fitting but i ended up finding out that its because the Male to male connector i had needed an O-ring to seal properly, i tried teflon tape but it never seemed to help.

Now im rolling with straight AN fitting (no swivel), O-ring on the AN fitting, and an oil line with a 90 degree turn on the oil pan and a ~100 degree turn off the turbo.

Should allow for a good seal and perfect flow. After i finish it ill probably take it off and have it made in the same shape in SS line
