Junkyard Turbo/Intercooler?
Are there any cars that used the T25 or T3 or a good size intercooler that I can pull these from? I'd like to go to several junkyards and spend the day looking for the best one I can find but need to know what cars to find them in. What about a Saab or Porsche? I only want 200hp for now and will replace most things later on as I acquire more money. I'll probably put no more than 8k on the first used turbo so a full rebuild may not be in order. There are very few people here in town that actually upgrade their cars to a turbo and there are plenty of junkyards, so I shouldn't have a problem finding one used.

The Pontiac sunbird (late 80's early 90's) used a Garrett T25. That's what I have in my workshop right now.
Stay away from SAAB turbos! I've read a few horror stories about oil starvation (due to bad bearing design) and even cracking. Even if you get a used one that looks good, who knows how much abuse it underwent.
I don't know of any cars that use the T3. I used to have a link that outlined which cars came with what turbos, hang on . . .

There were a couple others, but I can't seem to find them now. Search on T25 at google and I think it's there somewhere. Big list of all cars and what turbos they have.
As for intercooler: the SAAB intercoolers and Audi's tend to be well reputed, for small intercoolers. There are always a few on e-bay for around $100.
good luck,

The 2G Eclipse turbo came stock with the Garrett T-25.
I heard they have been modified and don't fit.

Would it be hard or expensive to modify? Just in case I find one cheap.

what do you mean by fit? They will fit in the engine bay, no problem. We have plenty of room for a T25. T3 starts to crowd things. T3/4 and you must be very clever with the design.
Now the flange may not be a standard T25, that's possible. But you can do what I did: get a T3 manifold and make an adapter. That way, when I want a T3 for more power, I already have the manifold. Just need an adapter for the turbine outlet and it's done.
When you get to this point (especially with our cars), you have to weld and drill some. Hopefully some kits will come out soon, but what fun would that be

what i meen is the compressor doesn't fit quite right, you have to twist it, and you have to redrill holes for the wastegate actuator...well thats what i had to do anyways...no big deal...takes 10 mins with the right tools
