From the title you can probably see where this is headed. I did a quick search about the forums, as you read this I'm checking the old site. I just wanted to know the difference between Internal wastegates and External wastegates. I have no idea what their differences or similarities are. Or even if one creates more power. Help out a noob will ya?

There ya go, I 'll remember that. I kinda figured that external is better but why is that? I thought that the more exhaust going through the turbine would increase spoolage. Is it a backpressure thing, with the external gate there is less exhaust pressure, or is it a heat thing, like EGT??

External wastegates flow much better therefore more effectivley control boost. They virtually eliminate boost creep. Also you have the wonderful blow-off sound! On the downfall, boost is no longer directly ecm controlled. If your knocking, the ecm cant tell the wastegate to open.

it couldn't before.. they still work off the same vacuum line..... its a mechanical function not an electrical.

Nice, a wise man once told me....

"cheap, fast, reliable... pick two because you can't have all 3"

Just wanted to make sure I picked the right ones.

Default What is the best way to start with an automatic......??

A properly designed and ported internal is just as good as an external. I wouldn't switch to external until you put out more than 350whp.

That has nothing to do with the wastegate that is your BOV. just go external it is way better in the long run

Not if your long term goal is <350whp. (which most here are probably looking at) The internal is a lot cheaper with less design/install headaches and does just as good of a job as an external.
