Looks like a nice kit, its great to see more Hyundai support from the well known companies. How much did it set you back and how long was the install?

I did it by myself, a few hours at night after a long day of work. I took my time to make sure everything was PERFECT. Total time, about 15 hours. That included struggling with the fan housing for an hour. If I had help, probably would've been 4-6 hours. Now that I know the car and I'm familiar with the engine bay, I could probably do it now in 2 hours, with someone helping.
AEM CAI + replacement washer fluid reservoir and AEM intercooler and charge pipes... just over $900 shipped. This yields approx. 12-15hp on the dyno, but I get more response and a better driving feel. It also has more response in 5th gear at high speeds. This is the starting phase. The next round will be a downpipe with a high flow cat, test pipe to delete the 2nd cat, and a tune. Hoping that'll be about $950. Having these pipes in place when that's installed will hopefully meld everything together. At that point I'll be hoping for an increase of ~50hp. |
That's really awesome, and great job! The IC looks great up front behind the black grille. The fitment of the filter is perfect, and won't get dirty. If I had a Turbo GC, this is the exact path I would go to.
The only thing I dislike is the AEM sticker. I love AEM, but it may look more subtle and stock without it. IMO stock and subtle rule. On a side note, I haven't noticed this until now that it really bugs me that the function of the black "vents" on the front bumper are useless. After all of our discussion with function>aesthetic. I really hope they come up with a better front bumper design. I may have mentioned before there is too much plastic and ends up looking cheap and Asian. What does this do to the warranty? |
The black plastic fog light grills - many people are cutting them out to allow air to pass through, however, with a turbo I REALLY don't want ANY water to get to the blades, that would be bad, so I'm being cautious and haven't cut into them yet.
This isn't warranty friendly, but I shouldn't need it unless it blows up the engine. |

Yes, I'm aware... but the stuff I did can be reasonably understood to have caused additional strain or stress on parts beyond that intended from the factory.
Relocating the trans cooler = no more trans warranty Removing an intercooler and replacing with an untested model larger pipes altering the A/F ratio, leading the car to perform compensating actions in attempt to correct ....but that's why I kept all my original parts, and took before/after pictures so I could always put it back in stock form when I grab my 2013 AWD Theta II Genesis Coupe with 274hp (not yet confirmed except for in my dreams). |
figure i would stop by and see how things are going in my old community...
even though i saw the pics on facebook, looks good man...i would have painted the intercooler core black to accent the black around the front grill, but regardless it looks good... |
lookin good, i would personally cut the strips o the grill out where teh FMIC is. it would look alot cleaner without those little black lines

optimo - I thought about it, and I actually started to, but it would've required a little dremel action and I was trying to piece my car together. It's still on my mind, though. As easy as it is to remove the bumper, I may do it next time it warms up. |
