I don't know how many of you are having trouble with the CPS on the Tibby's. But I spoke to the guy who is probably THE expert in Beta engine setups.

He is now using a Digital CPS from the newer Betas in place of the analog CPS from the older Betas. He says that setting up the E6K as Hall Effects / falling setup does the job of cleaning up 90% of the signal. The rest is cleared from a clean ground and a good 12+ V source.

Also if you are having trouble with the tach, he uses a signal regulator? off of the coil assembly of an older Sonata to combine the two inputs and feed the single output to the stock tach.

He has another trick for the idle control but I didn't get to ask him about that.

Sorry, was in Cali this weekend and wasn't here to answer.

So you're saying the newest BETA's use a digital sensor instead of the POS analog? Damn... I wouldn't mind swapping then. Any word at all on what years were given this new sensor?

I haven't fixed the CPS issue, I've only "worked around" it by using messy batched injection that results in hesitation all through the powerband when the sensor misreads.

Time to go check out Webtech...

Ok, so this is what I can find on the crank sensor:

Well, it's obviously powered, which is good news. But I wonder if the new sensor physically fits in the old hole. Time to call for a price now...

(all start a new thread about this for research purposes)

Ive had a 2 BETA 1's and BETA II in my car within the last 2 months...

This problem would only affect you if you're running a Haltech unit and having problems with the crank sensor. The problem revolves around the Haltech being much more sensitive, and as such being more more of a bitch when dealing with lossy / noisy stock wiring.

Not sure why your motors blew up

The XD block puts the Crank Position sensor at a different "angle" or position than the J2 block.

I was theorizing that, possibly, this change in mounting angle caused the Beta1 sensor to read the crank position improperly, thus altering the timing on the XD block running with the J2 ECU, on J2 sensors.

In theory, the Crank Position sensor should not care what angle it is mouted at, as it just senses the variation in magnetic field from the teeth in the Crank Sensor wheel....however, I'm still wondering if the sensor hole is moved slightly, or if the Crank Wheel is different between the 2 motors.
