Gt28rs Versus Gt3076r
#1
garrett gt28rs is installed and running on my car
turbo is rated at 350hp
Power is 205hp at 15psi
stock pistons and rods.
there's other parts that's going to get bolted in about 4 weeks to increase HP.
modified cylinder head, airram, big TB, flywheel, new manifold
Target is to get the Power between 250hp - 300hp.
I've already ordered another turbo, its a garrett gt3076r rated 500hp
Is this going to substantialy increase my HP at 15psi at say 6500rpm?
Any feedback from guys that have upgraded their turbos with more horsepower.
Pistons and Road is going to be last upgrade probably in the next twelve months.

The power increase will be a HUGE difference.
Your GT28RS COMPRESSOR FLOWs: 35 LBS/MIN
The new turbo compressor flow rate is: 53 LB/MIN
Whats the a/r on new turbo and your old turbo?
You will also have more turbo lag

turbo a/r for the gt28rs is .64
I've ordered .64 for the gt3076r also
This is the supplier.

Are you sure you need the bigger turbo? I know the Sylvia/240 that SCC put together has a GT28RS and they are putting close to three hundred hp from it. I would think that by maximizing your airflow into and out of your engine first and making sure it is as good as it can be... you should see your 250 hp with the existing turbo you have.

Ye it seriously is rather big... I believe the lb\min of the 20G I'm using on my GSX is 42 lb\min, and I'm putting out 415awhp on race gas @ 22psi... and its good to around 25psi, so it has a little room to play with.
Personally I think your going to have problems spooling it.

^ Maybe he just wants a big number on the dyno & not driveability... I would keep the GT28RS & like Mad-Machine said, work on improving the other elements around it like the BBTB & airram & whatnot (which you are doing). Hold off on the turbo upgrade for now & see what numbers you get first.

If your using the .64 a/r exhaust housing the GT30 is going to spool up pretty quick seeing how its Ball Bearing and has the better flowing 4 bolt discharge exhaust housing.
But I also agree you should be able to reach 275 WHP range with the GT28RS

well, you should not listen to me anyway. I am going to be running a GT25 because I want a very responsive and quick boosting car that I can drive everyday and not hate.

I'm Agree too... GT28RS is a really good turbo for get some respected HP with a fast spooling...
You better works on other elements to get your goal.... that turbo can suport that easily....
