Hey guys!
I got a question for anyone who is running forged Weisco Pistons in there Tiburon...
The thing is i have a freshly rebuilt motor with Weisco Pistons and Paurter Rods and noticed something starnge.
I undewrstand at start up Forged Pistons can be a bit loud and sound liek a Diesal but i notice a sound coming from the engine which is weird..
Its not a ticking noise which are my lifters thats the problem but more of a rattling sound which sounds like a diesal Car....
This sound stays present all the time and is getting louder as im breaking in the motor..

Is this sound NORMAL with any Forged Pistons installed?
I was thinking since Forged Pistons expand and need clearance it sounds like Piston slapping or something coming from the engine block...
Im not talking about at first when i start the car but while the car is warm even though i went for a long drive i hear this sound...
Just wondering if this is normal sound....
I am getting NO BLACK smoke or White smoke coming from the Exhaust so i dont think the new motor is faulty.....
I only have about 300K on the motor as we speak.... sad.gif

Finally i have another concern about Fuel pressure at idle..
I have mine set to about 45psi at idle with the vacum line connected but as the days go by i notice it jumped up to about 48psi at idle...
I turned it back down on the fpr to set it back to 45psi...I am running the 1:1 Aeromotive FPR with a 255 HIGH pressurer Walboro Fuel pump and 650cc injectors..........
This is weird why isnt it holding the Fuel pressure steady at idle without moving?
Another thing which im not sure if its normal but while im driving and let off the gas pedal my Fuel pressure on the gauge drops down about 2-3psi BUT when i come to the complete stop it goes back up to 45psi.....
So basically it will hit about 42-43psi while i have my foot off the gas pedal before coming to a complete stop ....
This normal?
ANy help would be great!

The rattling....

True forged pistons make that sound when engine is cold because they have to expand. If the engine was bored correctly and the clearances were correct you should not have a loud enough to hear rattle coming from the engine. Seeing how you have the weisco's which are not a fully forged piston like Ross pistons there shouldn't be any rattle. Viper966 has the same setup i am sure he will reply.

As for the fuel pressure.

Fuel pressure droping below set psi 1-2 psi then raising back to set psi Is ok nothing to worry about. But it rising on its own sounds like your fpr diaphram is faulty.

Gary!
The noise that i have i believe has to do with clearance in the motor and rattling around.Keep in mind race cars and other street motors run Huge amount of clearances and there engines sound extreemly loud and is normal,BUT the thing is i dont have Too much clerance and i beleive i have a Piston to wall clerance of 3.5thow..
I just want to be sure and find out where and why this sound is happening?
At start up the car is not even loud but then after a few mintues that sound comes

Viper!
I guess you have the same noise as me,but like you said its hard to describe.....
The sound is like a deep sound which sort of has a rattling sound to it or better yet sounds like a deisal car BUT not as loud...
Just wondering if this is normal or can cause any damage in the future........... sad.gif
BTW how many K you have on the motor ?
I have about 420K as we speak and like i said its getting louder by th ebreak in period...........

K = thousand my man, there's no way you have 420K (420,000) on your motor.

Does the ticking get louder as RPMs increase?

Spending $42k on an engine alone is retarded...unless it was quad turbo'd AMG engine pushing in excess of 1000hp...

Did you even get your block honed and bore aligned? True the deck? Balance the pistons, rods and crankshaft, and any other rotating mass?

As i said above i have 420Klm on the motor not 420,000 laugh.gif
Also the motor was completely balanced as well as Honed and im running a 3.5 Piston to wall clearance..
The Ticking noise is not coming from my Lifters as its coming from the bottom and as i mentioned and Viper said its hard to expalin but its liek adeep Low tone ticking noise or sounds a bit like a deisal car....
Even though if this sound is present i hope it wont harm th emotor or soemthing internally is wrong...
