Engine Details / Turbo
How many kms is a beta engine from a 1st gen good for ?
I am asking this because i want to drop in a turbo but it is no use if my milage is too high is this correct?
If i had the engine rebuilt would it be as good as new or there abouts?.
My engines done 100,000kms i want to know if i should turbo it/ rebuild then turbo / or have an engine transplant/

I would say a stock BETA can last at *least* 2-300,000 MILES with proper maintenance. If you want to turbo a used block like that, you'll save yourself a lot of money if you don't rebuild it. If you doubt your engine, have a compression test done, and if it shows a problem, a leakdown test. It might not need any internal work at all to get you another hundred thousand Kms.

To do a turbo kit for serious HP, you would be replacing the pistions and rods anyway, and basically disassembling 99% of the motor. You would know at that time the REAL condition of your motor. While is 99% disassembled, you will want to replace bearings, seals, check clearances and tolerances anyway...so there is no harm in doing this to a 5000 mile motor, a 50,000 mile motor or a 200,000 mile motor. Needless to say, the more Miles or KMs on the odometer, the more chance you have of bearings being warn out and needing replacement..etc..etc..etc..

Some more information regarding mileage and heat stress relief on engine blocks, the more mileage on an engine block, the more stress releief it has had - I read up on this a long time ago and got the information from a Cossie racing team, they apparently went to the scrap yards and bought the oldest, engine block with the highest mileage for their racing car - these engine boost a constant 2.0bar 30PSI on the track!

what about nitrous people????
im about to have 70000 miles on my 1st gen tuna on wheels
If this theory applies to a turbo,... it should be the same for nitrous right???
i already fried my differential and had to have the tranny reconstructed,...hopefully next time ill mess it up, someone will come out with a conversion kit for the 6speed tranny sad.gif

The rods and the crank are what you really need to worry about. The crank itself has proven itself to handle 600 Wheel HP. But if the crank Joural bearings are bad, or if their tolerances are just barely in spec, it can lead to the death of the bearing, or in extreme cases, the death of the block from vibration.
