Default DIY Turbo price list

I was thinking of turbo and compiled a list of parts needed for a low boost setup and prices:

Garret T3 (rebuild)-$600
Champion turbo manifold-$400
440 RCEngineering high ohm saturated-$359
Front mount generic intercooler(new)-$375
XS engineering BOV-$99
2nd gen turbo Talon/Eclipse fuel pump (walbro)-$175
S-AFC - $350
Piping (various from jc whitney)-$150
Msd boost timing module-$179

total=$2608

Dayum.... Can anybody help in lowering some of this cost. If I missed anything add please. I didn't even add new pistons cause I said it was a low boost setup, less than 10 psi.

When buying new equipment, you basically have the price dead-on. The "savings" is when you start buying stuff used.

FYI, you can get a set of Lucas 550's from Ballistic Racing for $240 + shipping from South Africa. Good price, good parts, and good service (I have ordered a set for myself)

huh, that's not a bad price at all.. do you plan to get new pistons at all? other than that, the price on that isn't at all bad for a turbo kit.. heh, especially for a t3 smile.gif

Red, would the Lucas 550 work with stock ecu and s-afc? Where can I find some quality used stuff.

Ebay. So far here's what I have and what I paid:

Garrett T25 - $100
12:1 Powerdyne Fuel Management Unit - $60
1G DSM intercooler pipe with flange for BOV - $20
1G DSM fuel pump - $20

I also got a copy of Onpol's exhaust manifold with used Turbonetics Mk II wastegate for $350 (manifold is new).

Still shopping for:
intercooler - $100 or less
BOV - 1G DSM, $40 or less
Gauges

After that it's just piping, fittings, installation, and gaskets. All in all, I should get around 200 crank HP tuned for under $2000

Trick is to know exactly what you want, watch e-bay, and find auctions for those parts that seem to go "under the radar". I've been buying stuff for over two months now, and don't anticipate being done for at least another two.

good luck,
ac

inobird, according to onpol

"..these injectors can only be use if you have an aftermarket computer like Haltech or Motec. Our cars use saturated type of injectors and the OEM ECU drivers can't use peak and hold ones. "

so, not they won't work with stock ecu and s-afc.

I might as well add my 2 cents.

The Champion manifold is a solid cast iron 4 - 1 manifold to fit Garrett T3 type exhaust housing for $300 + shipping... usually $330 delivered.

A picture is here... www.geocities.com/killnme/turbomanifold.html

The price difference with the Champion manifold and UFB's manifold is minimal. The design is a little different. Our's is a 4-1 so theortically it is a better design but UFB's log type may give you a little extra room for mounting the turbo and getting your hands and tools in there to work on it.

Just giving other options.
But UFB's intercooler price and injector prices will be hard to beat even from the cheapest US wholesaler.

Well, like my prior post... $100 off of the manifold. You could be the first to try the Split second ARC1-002 on the tibby. It is around $100 cheaper than the S AFC. You might be able to get by without the MSD unit with low boost and good fuel.
