Default differences between beta 1 and 2 for turbo

what are the main differences between the beta 1 and 2 engines? in this context...it just occured to me suicide years down the road when the time comes to get a new car, i've been planning in the back of my head to get a new tib (V6). i won't really have the cash to make it fast, so i won't care that it can't be made that fast. but i thought, wait, get the 4 cyl, which is simply a beta 2, and transfer your CNK turbo and all related components from my 98 tib to the 2003 tib, and just keep the stock exhaust manifold, pistons, and anything else i replace so i can put the 98 back together like it was. and just get a new set of pistons for the 2003, and i have all the other hardware, and a 2003 tib thats' faster than the V6, for about the same cash (18500 for I4 tib 20500 for V6 tib), figure the cash i save on buying the cheaper engine should take care of the parts transfer. and this way i'm not spending cash on a turbo that i won't have anymore when i sell the car it's on. what do you guys think?

ok....
first of all
the beta I and the beta II have the same pistons... not identical, but the same
How do i know?
I own both a beta I and beta II
As a matter of fact... my current beta I has beta II stock pistons from my beta II block... since my beta II block has CNK pistons
lol
instead of removing and installing pistons... do this...

Switch the engines...

Just remember... you need to reuse the BETA II intake manifold, throttle body, AC condensor, and water temp housing

Then you can just reuse your BETA I and sell the beta II engine brand spanking new

It will save you money, down time, and will make life much easier

Its possible... ive done a BETA I to BETAII and BETA II to BETA I swap 2 times

thanks jaws, and that sounds like a good idea, but my drive behind the whole concept was by the time i want to sell my gen 1, it should be up there in terms of mileage, and i want to be able to use my turbo on a new engine. so i can have the turbo power for another many years. if i swap engines and still use my beta 1, i'll prolly have to do major maintainance that won't be cost effective and the rest of my 2003 tib will outlive the 1998 engine that would be in it? i've got a second car, so downtime is not a problem, money, i was gonna buy the V6, so i figure the 2-3000 dollars i save by getting the 4 should cover new pistons for the beta2, new piping and a new exhaust. i shouldn't have to tune it, cuz if im not mistaken, my ecu that Chris at CNK is cooking up hase been developed on a beta 2 anyway, and the only thing different about the 2 ecus is beta1=maf beta2=map. mine will already be using map, so i should just be able to plug and play as far as the ecu is concerned.

Yes, all your "turbo" parts will swap over from the beta1 to the beta2.

Where you will get screwed is the intercooler piping won't fit the new Gen3 tiburon.

You'll also have to rewire and retune whatever Piggyback ECU system you get to work with the new Gen3 ECU vs your 1998 ECU.

Sharkey,

Another main difference is in the fuel systems between the BetaI and BetaII Tiburons. Chances are the CNK ECU was programmed for a 'return' type fuel system and the 2003 Tiburon is a 'returnless' type system. I'm dealing with this problem right now with my Alpine turbo install.
In talking with CNK (Chris) he is tuning on a BetaII engine but it is using a 'return' type fuel system.

yeah random, i figured the intercooler piping would require reconfiguration. but the ecu is different then between beta 1 and 2? what my main concern is is that the main expensive components (turbo, manifold, intercooler itself, fuel pump, injectors,) all fit the new I4. by the time i'm ready to get a new tib, i'll have a haltech, so i'll just have to retune it. the E6k are able to handle a returnless fuel system, aren't they? thanks guys. i wanna try to get all the info on this topic i need.

E6k can be programmed to have sex with your dog if you wanted to...

the benefits of having it is that its a complete stand alone...

it can do it all...
