Crazy Idea
alright i've been thinking about turboing my car fo about two weeks now, and i need a little motivation i think to do this project. my main lack of motivation right now is thinking how much it would cost me. I have no idea what it would coast and i dont want to start the project and have it turn into a dust magnet. positive side is it is a 1.8 fing02.gif and just looking to run like 8 lbs. of boost ( for the first couple weeks j.k.) but how much to expect?
turbo gurus are not in the house at the moment, but as far as i know nobody cant tell you how much will it be without some more info. and it will still be a quote or better yet an idea. Also i know they're gonna tell you to read up on everything turbo and such, to do a little research before you jump into the project. good luck man
well..
how many miles on the car? might not wanna boost it if its really high mileage.
my best suggestion to you is read max boost and do a detailed search on this site. you will find a wealth of information.
if your planning on running 8psi and thats it, a good custom kit should run you around 3000$ or so.
please though, do a TON of research before you just slap a bunch of stuff on like some members on this site and then wonder why they had problems.

68,000 and i want to do every thing the right way so my engine doesn't blow up when i decide to really get on it. but yea i've been doing research but just wanted to see a grand total approx. and if there is any other little things somebody hasn't posted yet.
If you've ACTUALLY done your research, you should know what parts you need, right?
And if you know what parts you need, then you can start looking around, trying to get them cheaper, discounted, used, etc.. Then you use a calculator, add it up, and there's your total tongue.gif There is no one that makes a "kit" for our cars, so you have to go custom.
You won't get very many replies to this thread, this is something that is different for every person. Some people have pieced kits together for half the price that others have for basically the same setup, because sometimes you get a deal, sometimes you are resourceful and use parts from other cars, etc.. But you already knew all because you searched right?

You could probably get started with $1500 - $2000 if you have connections with a shop and you can do alot of work yourself. If you want to do it right, you will probably pay $3000+.
These are of course ballpark figures. If you do it yourself you need to do a lot of research - read Maximum Boost by Corky Bell.
The truth is if you dont have motivation, and dont have money, then you should not turbo it yourself. It is a lot of work.
