Default Borg-Warner / Airwerks Turbo for V-6?

Does anybody know anything about the AirWerks Turbo for the V-6?

I know that they were able to boost the V-6 to around 250 Hp. Is this a turbo that will be available to the public? If so, when and how much?

Thanks

AirWerks-Equipped Tiburons Win Prestigious Awards From Hyundai at the 2002 SEMA Show

Tiburons Feature BorgWarner's New Aftermarket Forced-Induction Technology

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirWerks, the new aftermarket brand from BorgWarner Turbo Systems North America, is proud to announce that two vehicles equipped with AirWerks forced-induction technology won prestigious awards from Hyundai at the 2002 SEMA Show, held November 5-8 in Las Vegas.
The AirWerks/Area 51 Hyundai Tiburon displayed in BorgWarner's booth received Hyundai's award for Best Engineering Execution. The V-4 car features an AirWerks' K series turbocharger, as well as a turbo installation kit developed by Area 51 Fabrications. The forced-induction system is projected to increase horsepower from a stock 134 to 250 hp. Hyundai judges were impressed with the very clean, well-engineered turbocharger installation. They also appreciated the considerable effort involved in transplanting the all-wheel-drive system from a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV into the AirWerks/Area 51 Tiburon.

In addition, Hyundai awarded Best Tiburon to Street Concepts' car, which was displayed in Hyundai's booth. This 6 cylinder Tiburon sports an AirWerks boost package, also installed by Area 51. The prototype boosting device, which garnered considerable attention at the SEMA Show, is expected to increase engine output from the stock 170 to 250 hp. "This car had the perfect combination of styling ... and all the right performance," noted Hyundai judge Justin Osborne.

"We launched the AirWerks brand at the 2002 SEMA Show," says Jack Lorimer, North American Aftermarket Director for BorgWarner Turbo Systems. "With the intent of making the performance community aware of BorgWarner and its new aftermarket brand, AirWerks. But to have vehicles equipped with our forced- air technology win the Best Engineering Execution Award-and the Best Tiburon Award-at their unveiling is unprecedented, and incredibly gratifying."

Hyundai judges selected these two Tiburons from nearly two dozen vehicles on display at the SEMA Show, all of which had been built by top names in the industry.

I went to both of the mentioned websites and no joy.

www.bwauto.com works, but the turbo pages aren't up.

There's more of the same from my look, but at least it's something eh?

V-engined turbochargers take a LOT of plumbing to get it right, especially in a car with the engine "sideways" like all front wheel drivers have. The huge piping mess in the V6 engine bay just goes to show that... It certainly isn't an easy install for sure.

Notice that both power figures were rated at the flywheel as well, so we're not talking 250 wheel horsepower. I'm still not very sure I would want my Delta engine that close to it's breaking point.

RED: that V-6 turbo is all show I think...no upgraded spark plug wires, or fuel injectors.

Aren't these some of the things neccasary to help a Turbo app?

Not to mention there isn't even an intercooler. Note how the turbine connects directly to the throttle body....not good.... beat_dow

Also, it looks like they have the oil feed (or coolant feed) plugged off going to the turbo. Notice the red/blue cap what_the

Dude, why would you want all that HOT oil and HOT coolant in your turbo? And the lack of an intercooler just means they can give you MORE boost without the stupid pressure drop having to go through 13 more feet of piping and a charge core. wink

And bigger fuel injectors aren't necessary, mostly because after all the hot non-intercooled and lack of oiling in the turbo, the car isn't going to make any more power anyway

Well, aside from all the sarcasim wink i think the lack of intercooler just tells us that this is definitley a low boost application much like the HKS kits for the civic Si (B16A1) and Integra GSR (B18C1)....of which these also lack the intercooler due to it's low boost. As a matter of fact those kits don't even include BOV's since the compressor surge is so small it doesn't do a damn thing (due to the small amount of boost).

Of course our tib here has a BOV, but then again where's the MAF???? thumbs_d
