Hallo there !

I have a question;
When thinking about boosting my 98 tiburon, what difference does it make that it's MAP rather than MAF based?

I mean power output-wise, tuning in comparing the too and etc.

Thanks a lot!

I'm not sure what you mean but our cars are maf based. This makes it kinda tough to run boost, cause it's harder to fool it. HP wise I don't think it matters, it's all in ECU/Computer you install to run boost.

hey, actually MAP is better than MAF due to the way it detects the air coming in. However, the hyundai MAP sucks. You'll have to upgrade the MAP and use some kind of AFC to control it. RD people from the US arent to familiar with boosting a MAP based car because we dont have one. However I'm helping out a friend who as a 2003 (MAP based in the US) and an XD Elantra (MAP based in the US) with turbo projects currently. However the specifics in boosting their cars is a little different because they have a returnless fuel system. Im guessing yours is a return fuel system since you have a beta 1 engine more than likely.

Power output im am going to guess will be better. Because you dont have the MAF restricting the air flow, and the MAP is better/easier to tune.

The MAP sensor for Hyundai is not that bad Dweet,

Im running 12psi with the stock MAP sensor in place i will one day go for a 3bar sensor i can't think off the top of my head what rating its good for.

you will also need to get an ignitor of some sort as the ignitor is in the ECU case (unless you use the standard computer and just piggyback it).

3 bar = ~44psi...

How are you running the stock MAP with that much boost? Aren't you tossing CELs like crazy? How are you tuning your setup? (SAFC?? or what)

Everybody is telling me I need a standalone or a heavily modded ECU... and you say you're running the stock one!

Hit me up on AOL instant msgr at "bobSiz" and we should chat.

ummmmm.........

hes in NEW ZEALAND........they got MAP based tibs. USA tibs are MAF.

if you are going for high boost levels you WILL need a standalone.

Read Dweets post.

LOL...
Just didn't read between the lines I guess, take it easy! I was 99.9999% sure I needed standalone, and I also read that Alz99 is running standalone in one of his other posts (which I'm very interested in by the way):

Yours should be MAP based anyways.

My above post will stay becuase its applicable to RD's.
