how long can you run a boosted engine on the stock tune? the reason i ask is because im turboing my car soon HOPEFULLY and i dont have anytype of tuning softwear yet, but can anyone give me any advice on this stuff?it would be a big help. im sure we have it in the forums somewhere but ive been looking for a few days now and have yet to find anything...thanks guys just let me know. and if you can give me any advice to where i can buy tuning softwear and where i can find one that is completely rediculously priced! thanks again guys you have a help a bunch already!
Depends how long its on boost ... but not very long. I've read of people running 4-5 lbs with no tuning software, but I wouldn't do it. Do just the opposite and get a tuner first, learn hoe to use it, then add your turbo.
As for tuners ... put "tuning software" in the Search by Keywords search text box and you'll get about 4 pages of information.
I'm using the Perfect Power TF10, but a lot of guys on this board are using the SMT6. What ever you choose, learn it first ...

You have no business boosting a car if you have no way to compensate for fuel tuning. The only person I know on this forum who has ran with little modification to the fueling of the engine was hamhead. The stock fuel pump can only accommodate so much flow before it reaches it's peak, meaning you run the risk of leaning out an engine and causing severe damage. If you don't have the money right now to spend on a tuner, I would suggest you keep the parts off until you can, and invest in a AEM F/IC. Sure, you will shell out $400 for the tuner, but you won't blow an engine up.

thinks is no more than 4LBS of boost that the maf can handle, but personally i would not run it like that
if you going to do it right spend the money and get the AEM FIC 1910, wideband and a set of 42LBS injectors (a member on the board is something them in the Classified section)
doing it right the first time will save you a headache down the road!!!

yeah thats what i was looking in the buying the aem fic. i was just asking the general question just to see waht i could run with out the tune and all. wasnt 100% sure but no i know thanks guys
I have a turbo/mani setup that I need a full custom exhaust made for. And my stock mid-pipe is un-reinstallable. So once I get the exhaust made the turbo stays on.
I also have an AEM FIC, Green Top Injectors and 190 lph pump. There will probably be a span of about a week before I will be able to install the FIC.
So for this week I will be driving to and from work with a turbo car with no FIC. I was thinking about just pulling the BOV off and place a filter there and pull off the wastegate actuator. This would provide minimal boost that won't even reach the IM.
I was thinking about actually leaving everything attached and run a few pounds on stock ECU with 42lb injectors and pump. I would only be doing about 6-7 psi within the 3k rpm range.
I also have a wideband that is going to be installed, so I figured that as long as I have that and a boost gauge hooked up then I would be able to monitor my heavy foot. Making sure that I don't lean it out too much.
How does the ECU 'freak out'? Throw a CEL?

The MAF is what ... Overloaded? Maxed out? Anyway, it shows to much voltage and the ECU say nope and throws a CEL ... and maybe goes into limp mode.
You might want to rethink the turbo install until the tuner is in.

The MAF reads a 0-5v by the amount of air being circulated through it, forcing air through the MAF will make the ECU think there is something wrong, causing a number of scenarios. The ECU will most likely throw a CEL, causing the engine to run horribly.
From what ive learned, do your homework and really know about what yourself getting into.
I put my turbo in, in a weekend and had all the vac lines mixed up and soon found out the turbo was bad.
Everything now fixed smile.gif im running AEM F/IC with a Custom made Plug and PLAY harness (the only way to go) , 42lb injectors and AEM wideband. Runs 7psi all day everyday. I run it hard too. Muhaha lmao.gif
Only problem I have is I have a cel for it being too rich at idle or some bs but it dosent mess with the preformance of the car, and im pretty sure I know whats wrong with it. Im just too lazy to site down and fix it.
