Default boost problems

ok first post here,2001 tiburon 2.0. i have the speed factor standard kit with a fmic, vortech fpr, tial 38mm external wastegate, and the krd manifold. first problem,
1.when i drive the car it runs, through first gear no boost , second gear small boost only 5 pounds ,when it runs right, then no boost after a hiccup that happens randomly arround 3 to 4000 rpms while under boost or not.or just cruising down the highway it will still happen.

2.turbo was boosting good after we left tims house(speed-factor)but it was still hiccuping. we had to drive it 200 miles home. the turbo is having problems spooling up now,and wont boost above 1 or 2 pounds.and has a weird metal against metal sound when rolling slow 1500 rpms slow acellaration sounds like a reverbarating sound but metal on metal.

any help will be appreciated please!

I've never heard "detonation" but that metal on metal in my opinion could be it!! What else do you have other than the VORTECH FPR to control your a/f ratio??

As for the spoolage, smile.gif I'd say you have a leak somewhere. I'll assume that the stuff was all new when you got it?? I'd check the wastegate, you may have that set too high, lower it and see if that helps. Maybe the manifold gasket went and you have a leak before the turbo.

I dunno man, tough one. I'm just getting my feet wet with the FI stuff.

First thing to do is check all your pipe connections, make sure no clamps came loose allowing a boost leak, pull on them hard since the may only leak under boost.

Make sure the vaccumm line going to the fmu is good and has no holes in it.

Check to make sure the vaccumm line going to the wastegate is connected and in good condition.

If those things look good you could have a bad turbo, the noise could be the compressor wheel hitting the turbo housing but that is kinda rare for a new turbo.

Make sure you don't drive it around like that, you could break the compressor wheel and send junk into the motor and you are allready, most likely sending metal dust into the motor from the metal to metal contact in the turbo, after that happens the turbo will not be repairable.
