Well I was getting everything put together to drop the motor in and the timing belt wont fit anymore because the decompression plate raises the head just to the point where i cant get it to fit. Anyone know where I can get a belt jsut a little bit longer? i tried calling autozone, carquest, etc. and they dont really want to help. thanks

how thick was the decom plate/gaskets that you have used?

you might have to torque the head bolts just a tad bit more; there is more material(s) that you need to squeeze down this time.

and yes, a viper966 mentioned.. loosen the tensioner belts fully

I had this same problem with my car after installing the alpine decompression plate, alpine supplied a new smaller idler puller for the belt but the bearings went bad after a month, a buddy of mine worked at Autozone so me and him went in back and opened every pulley we could find until I found one that was a little smaller than the original and it worked like a charm, I can't remember the part number but I know the pulley I used was for a dodge, I think it was from a caravan.
