Hey!

For a little while I've been researching the possibility of getting a second-hand supercharger (SC14 maybe) & fitting it in-lieu of my power steering assembly. I'm now also looking into the possibility of putting together my own small turbo setup.

Now before anyone goes on about all the niceties that could be had, I don't want a high hp result from this. All I want is a little DIY project to keep me entertained, that can deliver a small (but hopefully noticeable) boost in power from mainly cheap/ebay/junkyard parts.

I know where I can get a cheap but effective intercooler from, as well as where to source the piping & FPR from.

Here is what I would like some clarification on, assuming 5-7psi is all I'd want to run:
- Are the stock injectors at all suitable for small boost applications?
- Is a turbo-timer a must-have? Will that depend on the type of turbocharger used?
- Can anyone recommend a widely available & cheap (read: junkyard) plumb-back BOV that would be suitable? Like OEM off old Saabs or something? BOSCH maybe?
- Could the stock ECU cope with this, or do I have to have a piggyback or something?
- Any particular turbocharger that anyone knows of that might be a good bet?
- Internally waste-gated any good for what I want?

Sorry again for what may seem like stupid questions to some/all of you. I have searched here & there & have read-up on quite a few articles but opinions always seem to differ & good, unbiased avise is hard to get from shops.

Cheers in advance fing02.gif

get the blow off valve from older dsm's. dont, read DO NOT, get the plastic one. i cant remember exactly what year they had the metal ones, but its from the older eclipse turbo's. dsm trader should have what you need. i'm telling you, that blow off valve is an awesome one. and you could probably pick it up for like $50.

a turbo timer is good to have to extend the life of your motor. you just want it to cool as much as possible before you shut off your car. you could get a used one on ebay for pretty cheap. but, no, a turbo timer is not a "must have".

stock injectors are a little too small even for small boost. your fuel pump and ur fpr are also unsuitable for any boost application. since u can get a fpr for cheap, u just need a better pump.

internally wastegate would be easier for you. plus you dont have to spend money and get a wastegate.

something like a t28 would be good for you. i think the stock dsm's had a 12g? not too sure, but a small turbo like t28 would work for you. (t25 or t28)

you would need some kind of piggy back. get a used safc off one of these guy here or on ebay.

btw, you can go up to 10lbs without having to really worry about fuel lean problems, pistons, and other things like way bigger injectors.

i wouldnt trust the stock injectors, but people have used them. but i highly doubt they will last.
a turbo timer is in no way needed, all it takes is u sitting for about 30 seconds letting the oil circulate.
for a decent stock bypass valve, try to find one of a 88-92 mx6 or probe turbo. they use a really nice bosch one. can handle 15 psi with no issues.
internal wastegate would be the best bet for a low boost set up.
id also include a rising rate fpr, or a fmu to go along with it. turboing is actually quite simple and straight forward.

Thanks guys fing02.gif

That answers all of my questions for now... Off to the wreckers I go! wink1.gif

EDIT*: If anyone has anything else to add, by all means do so... It's more than likely that I'll be getting this stuff together at a leisurely pace over the coming months cool.gif

its a 1g dsm blowoff valve.

he's selling the kit as a whole i think, so if he doesnt want to part it, you can go to dsmtrader.com and find what you need.

Yeah, I'm not parting it out. You can find 1g DSM BOV's on ebay or dsmtrader (although dsmtrader currently seems to be down).

I was probably going to get a Walbro 255l pump.

There's a really cheap adjustable FPR (knock off brand, I think) that I can get for around $50, brand new too.

walbro 190 would be plenty for a low boost set up. as for fpr's, make sure its a rising rate in reference to boost. i wouldnt run a cheap one, thats something that ifanything happens, your motor will go boom. id pick up a aeromotive one. ive installed a few, and all have been great.

^^
for the price difference, however, you might as well get the 255. i mean, you're getting a fpr to go with it anyway. better safe in case u decide to go with more boost.
