Have anyone ever experienced engine blow up because of bad tuning? What did you done wrong and what you should have done to have prevented it from happening, share your stories.
I have never seen one explode, would be interesting to see though. Might have to give that c4 a try if it worked for tanc, cause that guy is the tits.
I have seen plenty of detonated pistons, rods through blocks and pans!, valve heads embedded into piston crowns. I've taken heads off and found 3 # 10 bolts in the CC, from the intake, red rags stuffed in intake plenums. And most of these were caused by the owners choice of previous mechanic....how much do you trust yours? smile.gif

My machine shop has a piston on the counter from one of their DIY customers. A brand-new $600 piston with low-friction coatings on the skirts, high-temp resistant coating on the crown. Big hole from a valve stem right through the crown. Zero miles, the timing was set wrong at initial build time. Doh.
I've seen a Delta engine shove a rod through the block due to bad tuning on Alpine's part. It was when they were street tuning their Delta Stage 2 Supercharger kit. AFR went lean, and kaboom.

my old engine... stock bottom end, ported head, cams, air ram super 60 turbo about 22-25 psi
bad batch of fuel (winter fuel has less octane)
pesky bmw driver and pig headed driver (me)..i heard it ping, but didn`t want the bimmer to go up front...
result, bimmer stayed behind, put i hurted #4 piston
actually the rod small end had some aluminium powder stuck to it and the inside of the turbine housing had been "ceramic coated" by the burning aluminium
i`ll try to dig up a pic of the piston we melt on our TAD dragster.. that one is is WAY nasty...

Is this a stock high compression piston or low compression aftermarket what brand?
