i pay $5.41 for a gallon of 98, and the cheapest ive seen in the UK is $5.12 and thats for 95
So, how much is it per Liter for the 98, and the 95?

Jon,
Is that 98 octane R(research)ON? My guess is that it is RON, the US uses a funky but more realistic octane rating. (R + M(motor))/2.
98 Research is about the same as 93 (R+M)/2 octane
I believe that the UK has the worst gas prices in the world followed by Korea then Japan. It's around $4 a gallon for 92 research = 87 "US" octane here in Seoul.
Random, you should just buy the 100 octane stuff and mix it with 91 premium. You are as car crazy as many of the RX-7 owners, and some of them buy 50 gallon drums of VP16 to keep in their garage.

Yeh its RON i didnt reolise that it was different. In that case we are really ripped off and also i dont know why you are having the problems with the kit then as the fuel is about the same.
Jon - is your wastegate adjustable? Mine is but Randoms is not. That might be one difference.Yeh its RON i didnt reolise that it was different. In that case we are really ripped off and also i dont know why you are having the problems with the kit then as the fuel is about the same.

THAT is a question for alpine.... Yeh its RON i didnt reolise that it was different. In that case we are really ripped off and also i dont know why you are having the problems with the kit then as the fuel is about the same.
The retune got about 20 more HP, and about 40 more Ft Lbs. I'll have a dyno from a dyno jet today or wednesday.
I talked to Mark at Owen Developments quite recently (the place that tuned my Unichip & S/C and Jons setup.)
Mark has been over to Alpine and apparently SA have a different set up on the ECU to us (UK) which is why they get different figures. He said the guys at Alpine are very knowledgable and were astounded that everyone else wasn't getting as good figures as them.
I've tried to find out whether we can get our ecus changed to use the same map as SA, but no luck so far...

I've been following this issue and still don't understand. Can we not just get the ECU programed the same as theirs or does the MAF / MAP difference screw us?

The problem is the MAF/MAP differences.I've been following this issue and still don't understand. Can we not just get the ECU programed the same as theirs or does the MAF / MAP difference screw us?
The internal ECU map (lowercase) of Ignition and fuel timing points are vastly different in MAF and MAP based systems.
The Unichip uses a "add on" MAP sensor.
The problem arises when you try to "second guess" MAF readings and ECU maps with a MAP sensor based device.
In order to get the Alpine Turbo kit working properly on a MAF based system, we need to do one of 2 things.
#1. Leave the STOCK MAF signal alone and unclamped up to max airflow reading that triggers a CEL. After the max MAF value point, a new ECU map will have to be created in the UNICHIP to handle ALL ignition and fueling needs, and the MAF signal will have to be clamped.
#2. Create a complete ECU map for the Unichip based off MAP sensor values.
Needless to say, Option #1 is much easier than Option #2.
Option number #1 will require probably 2-3 days worth of dyno/ECU tuning, but once done, it should work for ALL MAF ECU's.
Option #2 Would take weeks, and possibly months to build 100% new ECU maps, but the payoff would be it would work on ANY MAP or MAF based system, as the unichip programming would basically replace the stock ECU for fuel/ignition timing.
There is one more option that I have not mentioned. It would involve dumping the Unichip in favor of another ECU piggy back or Stand alone ECU system. This step/stage is also being investigated by Alpine, however, nothing is definete yet.
Steve and I are still working on the Turbo kit, it is by no means "done". The Supercharger is also still being worked on, and is, by no means "done". Once final decisions are made, and or updates happen, They will be posted.
