Alp. Turbo vs. check eng. light
First off, Alpine turbo is in and I really like it. The power is awesome. I am using the spacer and have not noticed any leaks. I am using the fifth injector. Yes, my clutch will not last, I have smoked it twice in three days sad.gif . However I will ride it out. Problem is this. This third day after the install my check engine light came on. Also when I went to pull over and use my hazard lights, they didn't work. The car is going in Monday. Random any ideas what might be going wrong? Also we went to connect my oil pressure gauge and couldn't. When you go to connect it to the factory location the turbo is in the way when you use the T-off adapter and it appears that it is much to hot there anyway. Any ideas for a relocation? Doesn't the fifth injector have something to do with the relocation, like being able to keep an eye on it? Thanks HondaEater

Cool, I'm glad Island Motorsports was able to get you running.
#1. The CEL is probably a "engine misfire". The computer detects detonation as misfires. Go down 1 or 2 spark plug temp ratings, also...ONLY run high Octane fuel, and consider "octane boost" add in products when you know you are going to be running it hard. If you can find it, feed your baby 100 octane unleaded on high performance days. DO NOT USE HIGH OCTANE LEADED, only UNLEADED.
#2. The CEL could be the MAF complaining about too much air. You should REALL invest in the ODB-II cable. There is a group buy going on at Fxtreme. It will alow you find out what triggered the CEL and take preventative measures.
The hazzard switch may be disconnected/connected to the wrong cable. Did they take your dash apart?
What did you end up doing for a CAI? Or did you just use the stock airbox setup?

I run the highest octain (93) already. Any recomindations for better sparkplugs? How much for an ODB-11 cable? I am scared to ask if there is a group buy for it. For that matter what is it? As far as I know they did not pull the dash. They just were under the dash where the ICU is. And last but not least, I have not ran a CAI. I just used a normal K&N filter. We left it as is first to see how it performs, the mod it later. Thanks HondaEater

It depends on how many people they get in the group buy. They can get as cheap as $80, but the normal price is $120 to $140.

You will need a old laptop to run it on. It does not matter what shape the laptop is in, I use an old 486Dx4-100Mhz running windows 98 for mine. I run a "DC" inverter off the cigarette lighter to provide it with power.
I would STRONGLY reccomend it to you as you need to know what is triggering the CEL's. If you cannot find an old laptop, e-mail me. I have one that I can sell ya for around a 100 bucks.
BTW...did they do any dyno testing? I find it hard to believe that they tuned the Uni-Chip right without slapping it on a dyno. If they did, what HP numbers did they come up with?

First off they didn't dyno my car or tune the unichip. They said that it should already be tuned to the proper adjustments. I will have to go to a different shop to do any tuning. They just installed the turbo and gauges. It took 20 hours and they charged me $1000.00 plus tax. I will ge the OBD-11. Just let me know when and where!

uh...I would take that puppy to a qualified Uni-chip tuning shop. For the Extra $100 to do a dyno run and minor fiddling with the Uni-chip it would be worth it.
If extensive work is needed to the unichip, it should only be $200 total.
Trust me on this one. My UniChip was NO WHERE NEAR tuned...

The "uni-Chip" is what is supplied by Alpine to "fool" the stock ECU into thinking nothing is wrong. It is fully capable of running 4 larger injectors.
However, it costs $1000 installed and tuned. So a HalTec setup is only about $500 more, with much better programability.
