So i got the chance to take the accent to the track for the first time ever, untuned, on all season tires @ 20psi tire pressure, very cold day (8'C at midday)
A) I have traction issues.. getting a clean launch out of the hole is very difficult in the car.. but then again im also just getting used to it let alone used to it on a track.
cool.gif GODDAMNIT somebody tell me there's a better geared transmission that drops into the x3 than the x3 tranny... the gear ratios suck balls.. the car runs out of steam after middle of 3rd gear... the only thing keeping it pulling relatively is the turbo.
C) managed to get a day best of 15.8 in the 1/4 mile, beating a grandprix gt during the run.... i did 15.80, he did 15.83 smile.gif
he had better reaction time.. and was ahead untill the 1/8th mile then i started creeping past him.
all of the other day's runs were consistent 16-16.5's with nothing but tires going up into the ozone layer. LOL
nonetheless.. it was great fun,.. even the gf took the car down the 1/4 doing an 18.7 LOL. oh well.. she had fun.
made me realize a few things... gf's who will goto the track with you.. and try your car at the track kick ass.
also.. i need,... more... powwwerrr.... and c) somebody tell me what tranny i can put in this snotrocket to gain some more acceleration... having to instincively want to shift from 5th to a higher gear on the highway SUCKS.

Are you running race slicks? If not 20PSI is far too low for optimum traction on street tires and you would do far better at 30-35PSI.
As far as the gearing issue, you want to not lose steam after 3rd but you want to cruise on the highway at a lower RPM? Those two goals aren't very compatible without adding a gear unless you're going to mix and match gears. As far as adding a gear goes you would have to source the rare Beta 6 speed from Korea. It should bolt to the engine with a few modifications but beyond that you're going to have to make new trans mounts more than likely and possibly custom axles.
The MC Accents have a lower final drive than the 1.5l X3 but have the same transmission gear ratios. The LC2 has a taller 5th gear and a lower final drive. Best acceleration will come from a MC tranny, best highway cruising rpm will come from the LC2.
Here are some numbers if it helps:
X3 1.5l:
3.46, 2.05, 1.37, 1.03, 0.84 - 3.94FD (3219rpm @65)
LC 1.5l:
3.62, 2.05, 1.37, 0.97, 0.83 - 3.65FD (2946rpm @65)
LC 1.6l:
3.62, 2.05, 1.37, 1.03, 0.83 - 3.84FD (3100rpm @65)
LC2 1.6l:
3.62, 2.05, 1.37, 0.97, 0.78 - 3.84FD (2913rpm @65)
MC 1.6l:
3.62, 2.05, 1.37, 1.03, 0.84 - 4.06FD (3317rpm @65)
Korean GK 2.0l 6 speed:
3.15, 1.94, 1.33, 1.06, 0.86, 0.70 - 4.68FD (3186rpm @65)
If you want to compare gear ratios in more detail, including getting shift points for each gear try http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
If you want to check other Hyundai gear ratios you can download the spreadsheet here.

i clarify myself.. by lose steam... i mean, the turbo's already pushed all it's got.. and the car doesnt want to pull harder than it already does.
lol
i dunno.. more boost would help i suppose.. im just so used to seeing 7500rpm+ aswell with the other car all the time lol
and as for the tires.. yeah.. they were performance all seasons.. i tried at 35...30...25... and lastly 20.. the 20 psi is what netted me the 15.80 and 16.00 runs.. all the other runs of the night, were hovering in the 16-16.5 arena.
how much work is it to put in an mc or lc tranny into the x3 block?
at 6-7 psi the turbo should by no means feel like its done. i would say up the boost a bit, but untuned that would be a terrible idea..but depending on what rpm you are in the turbo will lose its efficiency. methinks you feel its done because its out of its effective range....just my two cents

i fully agree.
its 6-7 psi completely untuned.. not even a wideband.. lol my only "tuning" is an adjustable RRFRP that doesnt have a fuel pres gauge on it (FML) and my boost gauge. lol
ive read compressor maps of the T25 and the turbo is apparently out of it's peak efficiency range anywhere past 6000rpm on my motor
which is right about where it starts to flatten out and stop pulling. its strong from 2800rpm (full boost) up untill 5500k, then the psi drops from 7psi to 6psi (wastegate creep maybe? im not sure..).
that and the fact that i dont have a proper fmic, might have something to do with it.
i mean.. im sure if i were to put my fmic kit on the car, i could squeeze another psi or two out of it safely.
im going to look into an mbc or a proper ebc next pay, because i felt that a lot of the launches were fubar due to hardcore wheelspin.. launch too low an rpm.. and the car just bogged, launch too high an rpm.. and 1st gear was up in smoke.. and regardless of bog or roast, 2nd gear was still mostly wheelspin.. hard line of giving it just enough gas to keep the wheels moving the car forward while not letting the turbo spool out of boost.
right now the car's running homewelded 2" iron piping as chargepipe and IC piping to a rusted old mr2 sidemount scrammed behind the front bumper.
ive slowly started upgrading the chargepipe, i replaced the intake side from the filter to the maf to the turbo inlet with 2 1/4 polished aluminum.. and that did help quite a bit even on street driving. more responsive and it completely changed the turbo and bov sound to the better spectrum of noise.
before the piping upgrade, the car sounded like it was powered by a pidgeon under the hood (c/o greddy type RS bov).
and i couldnt concentrate 100% on driving the car, because i was being haunted by having to slowly shift thru gears vs bang thru them.... x3 shifters are poo.. even since i upgraded the bushings.. for city driving, it's fine..... but for trying to rip gears, it's just not working for me.... damn hyundai and their cable shifter!

LC tranny swap should be pretty easy, the MC I don't know, it has a different shift pattern, you might need it's shifter as well. You should also be able to swap in the FGR only into your transmission, but that's a lot of work.
Unfortunately there is no factory close ratio transmission for the Alpha or Beta in the US and the Korean Beta 6 speed is very hard to get and expensive.
As far as tire pressures go, I think that either your launch improved as time went on and therefore running lower pressures got you better times, or you have another problem that low tire pressures masked, such as excessive wheel hop. At 20PSI most all season radials won't have good contact pressure at the center of the tire. You should probably be in the 25-30PSI range for optimum traction. Rear tires should be at 40PSI to reduce rolling resistance.
What were your 60ft times at different pressures? What size tires are you running?
With lower powered cars often the benefit of lower rolling resistance overcomes the benefit of a slightly better launch with lower pressures

as for tire size, i was running 185/60/14 cheapo performance all season tires. runway brand. lol
im pretty sure i didnt have too much wheelhop, just spin galore. and no matter what i did, or how i shifted, i always spun almost halfway thru 2nd gear before i hooked up.
was kind of frustrating, but fun nonetheless

Those tall sidewalls and narrow section width tires won't be very forgiving of low pressures (in general anyways).
I have 100whp and I had the same size all season tires as you from the factory. I had wheelspin all the way through second gear. They're just inadequate to get any grip with. You really need to find some 205 width grippy tires at least for the front. If you're going to run them all the time for all 4. No matter what pressure you run you'll never get good launches with those.

i love the x3 ratios.. i think its ur tunning ur probably leaning out or poping a knock event in top 3rd high load..
i run 14.8 with beta swap using x3 tranny and its awesome 1st second shoot me out the hole and 3rd keeps it going strong. i would bet ur getting a lil detonation and the computer is retarding the timing. just a guess.
the 7-6psi is the compressor is too small. turbos out of efficiency as u said.
