Default 60 pounds of boost!

1,000-hp VW Golf hits 155 mph in 6.1 seconds, thrashing Venom GT

Hennessey Performance has been making waves recently with its Venom GT, boasting world-record speed while delivering sour words for Bugatti. During its record run, the Venom GT used all 1,244 hp to hit 158.83 mph in just 10.29 seconds, an insane feat if ever there was one.

There does, however, remain a car that can crush those figures, firing to 155mph in just 6.1 seconds. The weird part? It's an original edition, 1.8-liter VW Golf.

The Golf in question is nicknamed the 16Vampir, a creation of German tuner company Boba-Motoring. The company seemingly produce multiple variants of Golf, as well as a few EVO tunings and BMW E30s. Because, well, why not?

The ridiculous video below documents Boba-Motoring's latest Golf, a 1,000 hp, all-wheel drive MK1 featuring a dual clutch transmission. This particular version of their 16Vampir reportedly hit 62 mph in 2 seconds and 124 mph in just 5 seconds, weighing merely 1,980 lb. The engine is a turbocharged 1.8-liter 16V, firing 1,013hp thanks to 60 psi in boost — about triple what's used in IndyCar engines.

I have no idea how Boba-Motoring achieved this, because, well, I don't speak German. But the video speaks for itself, as does the performance chart posted below. This car is beyond rapid. It's also wildly entertaining and, presumably, heroically unsafe. Move over, Hennessey, another player's in town. Only this time, it's a 1970s Golf.

Daddy want.

My Colt only makes 1/3 of that power, but that's kinda what it feels like. Only weighs 1,900 Lbs. I can't image what 1,000 HP would feel like in my car.

Curious If they're using a diesel bottom end to withstand that much boost.
