Hello,

I was debating putting this in the engine/trans section but being as it is turbo related I figured this would be a more suitable location.

Anyway, my question is:

How similar are the 4G63 exhaust manifold flanges to ours? I am thinking of making my own turbo manifold or possibly using one that is produced for the evo to save money and open up my options for an equal length manifold.

From what I see in these pics:

http://www.p1-performance.com/products/vib...ust_man_flanges

Part 1460M - all the way at the bottom.

http://www.kspec.com/list.php?ac_id=85&ai_id=1748

They appear to be very similar in design, I just don't know if the distances between the bolts would be the same.

Also, on the tib manifold, one of the outside mounting holes is lowered a bit, the evo manifold flange has a similar hole, but it looks like it is only spaced farther away from the rest.

There MAY however be the possiblity of modifying the evo's single hole that might not match up to make it work on our head.

What do you guys think?

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I did a search and came up with unrelated info so..

If this won't work, what are my options other than the $900 kspec manifold for a well-integrated external gate flange and equal length pipes?

Thanks for any info guys.

T.

Proof is in the pictures. You need to modify two bolts, but it does fit.

yes, the mitsu manifolds are easy to fit on our cars.. the only issue with that is, 90% of the mitsu tubular manifolds that i have seen, have the turbo flange on the left side or center of the manifold.. (basically the flange is in the center or left offset) this poses a clearence issue with our alternator. my equal length manifold from tim mounts in the center and i have almost NO clearance to my alternator, which is why i need to replace it.

i would have also gotten a EVO or 4g63 manifold for my kit, but most of the nicer ones would have caused major issues for routing the downpipe..

here is a tubular style that would work well with our cars..

theres also TONS of 4g63 manifolds on slowboyracing.com (ultimate dsm parts site)

i would personally just go with the OBX manifold and reinforce it, or get one custom made.

i believe tim will still do custom hyundai stuff.. he might make one like mine for around 500$.. the quality is TOPNOTCH.. its stainless and very thick steel.

evo8 4g63 manifold WILL NOT WORK WITH BETA MOTORS without extreme moding. you would need someone to cut off the beta flange and weld it to the manifold. took these pics when i had bought one to try but it didnt work out you would have to redrill almost every bolt hole and the one one the far driver side wont even fit on the flange and you would have to cut that off and not bolt it at all.

here are pics to show what i'm talkin bout

it just aint happining

There's alot of stuff on EVO/Eclipses and Tiburons that are interchangable. They take our BETA heads for their engines for the DOHC capabilities. The Eclipse front springs/struts looked identical to me without side-by-side comparison. We can use their parts, they can use ours.

Look at this picture. Hint: it's not a tiburon... http://www.joebucci.com/images/DCP_0016.JPG

You can see the similiarities. I'm actually thinking that it may be the same company or the same engineer who designed our cars.

I was actually thinking their intake manifold would be nice for us. It is a small plenum, long runner setup. the Plenum is about the size of our throttle body. From there it goes out to each and every runner. From what I hear, this is ideal for turbochargers. He is jelous of my intake because it would be perfect for his car until he completes his EVO Turbo on his Eclipse. I don't know for sure about swappability of the intake manifold, but the exhaust manifold is for sure.

I'm willing to bet this intake manifold would fit http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e265/Ecl...01/IMG_0263.jpg

I'm running a Eclipse exhaust manifold.

The eclipse guys use evo turbos all the time and the evo guys use bigger turbos.

try moving your gasket so the ports line up more instead of sliding it to the right. Each bolt goes slightly outwards.

Here's my buddy's eclipse-evo thread http://www.club3g.com/forum/rs-gs/81189-be...ect-starts.html

SO basically you've got to go Tiburon -> evo and the similiarities are very much there.

I've helped him with every mod in his signature, including making the signature. Trust me when I say the cars are VERY similiar.

If it's possible with an eclipse, it's possible with a tiburon.

Evo stuff isnt as compatible as 2G Eclipse or Talon parts. Older Evos could use our heads, not anymore. I had a 2G Talon manifold for a little bit and would have needed to fix two holes to get it to work. It had a 16G on it but I sold it instead. I will be running an equal length mani from an Eclipse when I put the new motor in. My Alternator wont be up there anymore so Ill have nothing but room.

Yea there are a number of things between the dsm's and tibs that can swap, but i also can only speak for 1 and 2g parts. Once we get into evo's, i really dont know. I am parting out my 90 talon tho so if anyone feels like buyin some stuff and finding out let me know.

I dont kno a lot about internal motors, but how can the heads be interchangeable? My 4g63 in the talon has the timing/cam gear on the opposite side of my hyundai's. There must be more work involved than just swapping them. And ive heard this rumor about switching the heads and have asked around to the dsm crew i know here, and none of them have heard of this. In fact most were obvlivious to the fact that the dsm and tib could even qualify as equals (stock v stock). I think that these statements about how often these things are done, at least from our cars to theirs, is exagerated. I think sure it can be done, but i think more often than not its us using their parts. Look at all the turbo tibs here. 50% are probably using a mitsu stock turbo. Of all of the dsm's ive worked on I have never heard any suggestion to borrow hyundai parts, check hyundai supplies, etc.
Maybe it is rare, extreme, or simply few instanced where these things actually happen.

Just my thoughts on this.

The older 4G63 was compatible with the Elantra head if I remember right. The 4G63T was not compatible I dont think

Cool,

It's good to hear that the majority of people believe/know it can be done.

I have tried contacting Tim on more than one occasion in reference to getting a custom manifold, but I haven't heard from him.

I would be happy to pay that much or maybe a bit more for a manifold from him, I have seen his work and yes it is very well done.

This will be a big help in manifold selection, I guess I better start surfing! LOL.

Thanks guys. cool.gif

He has been impossible to track down lately I think. Let me know if you do get in contact with him. Im going to be going with a different manifold also and would see if he can do it before getting an eclipse mani.
