what we are trying to tell you... and this is ignoring the price of doing everything you want to do... if you build a beta that can make power at 9 grand.. you are going to hate it.

Because Hyundai does not have a way of altering the lobs on the cams like Vtec does, you will need some very wild and very lumpy idling cams. This is going to turn the usually torquey and broad power banded Beta into an engine that acts like an on/off switch. You will most likely have a powerband that runs from 7500 to 8800 RPMS.... with NOTHING beneath that. Try and give it power at 5000 and it will snort, buck, and try and stall.

Trust me, I had a car like that once. It was fun for about 6 months when I was 18.

So unless you are looking to build an engine for the track only, this is a waste of time and energy.

Stepping into Mads wagon, maybe we all reacted unpolite to your question, but it's not because we are a bunch of retards or because we think we know it all; we just --as a community-- try to help people with your kind of enthusiasm into the right direction. And we do it precisely because we do care, it would be easier to tell you, "yeah, go try it" and get some feedback on your failure, but that's not this community's style you know wink1.gif

those systems like VTEC just makes engine drivable and economical (? meaning better fuel consumption) at different RPM.

If you are gonna to built engine for a track only - you don't need VTEC, etc. You need only aggressive cams that will be tuned to those RPM where you want max HP (as you said high RPM). But with very aggressive cams you will have idle RPM like 1.5-2K RPM. And it will be PITA to drive at low-mid RPM.

Why don't do engine swap to BETA2 with CVVT, if you want?
