Default Toughen Up 1.6 Accent/getz Gearbox

hey guys

thinking seeing as im pulling out the motor for a full rebuild, thinking of tricking up the gearbox a bit.... gearbox for 1.6L Accent/getz/verna/click...

I know i can get a Phantom Grip LSD, or a full Quaife replacement LSD...
Already have a nice new clutch - rated for 450hp, so i know that wont be a issue

What should I look at doing? I am also thinking of doing my drive shafts but getting custom ones to use Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo CV's as they are indestructable, Got a budget of say $1300 USD

Cheers Ryan

No idea what anything costs in Australia, so I won't concern myself too much with the budget.

The Alpha trans has kept getting better basically since year one up until now. Getting a newer gearbox will add to reliability. Here newer gearboxes are less than $500.

If you get a Quaife LSD, you'll be splitting your power between the two axles equally, basically stressing them each as much as making half the power would as a one wheel wonder.

If you want to really add to the gearbox's reliability, get it cryotreated.

Looks like retail is around $1350 USD.

You can cryotreat whatever parts you want to get done, up to and including every single metal part even the housing. I would get the entire differential assembly done if I was doing it at the very least.

They just freeze the parts to incredibly low temperatures at a specific rate.

Differential, synchros, and gears.

I don't know how much more it would be to do everything though. I would at least ask.

ryan....if your going to this effort then start with a getz g/box case and use 1,3,4,5 from the getz and the LC2 2nd

youd get: 3.615, 2.053, 1.37, 1.061, 0.825 FD = 4.056
as your ratios

M5AF3 X3 Excel: 3.462, 2.053, 1.37, 1.031, 0.838 Final Drive = 3.842
M5AF3 LC 1500: 3.615, 2.053, 1.37, 0.971, 0.825 FD = 3.65
M5AF3 LC 1600: 3.615, 2.053, 1.37, 1.031, 0.825 FD = 3.842
M5AF3 LC2 1600: 3.615, 2.053, 1.37, 0.97, 0.78 FD = 3.842
M5AF1 MC 1600: 3.615, 2.053, 1.37, 1.031, 0.837 FD = 4.056
Getz 1300: 3.615, 1.95, 1.37, 1.061, 0.825 FD = 4.056
