Default Squeaky Clutch

Hello All,

My clutch is starting to squeak and it's getting pretty loud. After listening to it for a while I am pretty sure it is coming from inside the tranny and not the pedal itself (though you can feel it squeak in the pedal)

The clutch seems to work as it always has and the gears still shift smooth.
The car is a 2001 and has 21,000 miles on it. The clutch is never abused in any way.

Anyway, any ideas on what this might be and if it would be covered under warranty?

Thanks in advance.

Sqeaky clutch usually means your release cylinder needs some lubing.

I am going to make an appointment tomorrow to have my clutch looked at among some other things. Once they figure it out I will let you all know.

yeah, i'd say it's either your slave cylinder or the pedal. if it's either of the two, you can do it yourself. however, if it's under warranty, have them do it. my dealer in fl wasn't cool about my brake pedal squeaking. the guy put some lube on it, but it still squeaks, and i'm too lazy to get under there and lube it myself.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from inside the tranny. It only does it when the car is warm though. I have an appointment for Monday 1/6/03, so I'll find out then.

Well I got my car back today, the dealership kinda hurried me out, but from what I can make out from my invoice it was bushings.

They replaced the bushings in my clutch and boy what a difference it made. To be honest, I really didn't know my clutch had a problem until they replaced the bushings. The "creak" in my clutch is gone, the gear shifts are WAY smoother (I was having grinding probs, sometimes it wouldn't go in gear, sometimes I had to force it OUT of gear) and the clutch feels really smooth.

Now that I got all of the squeaks and shimmies out of my car it feels like I have a new car.

I hope they didnt charge you much, cause all it is, is a 10 minute job with a 50 cent part.

And, chances are they didnt replace it at all. I bet you they just lubricated the bushing.

My clutch used to squeak, until I self-lubricated (no, not THAT) the bushing. worked perfect ever since.

Sir Moof,
Did you replace/grease the bushings in the Tranny? or just in the cylinder?

If it's in the tranny, how is that a 10 minute job? It seems like it would take me at least an hour to get the thing off, find the bushings, lube them, and put it back.

Not being critical, just curious. I've had this problem for a while and would love to fix it.

all info is appreciated. Thanks,
AC

It was the bushings inside the tranny, and it took them about half of the day to do it.
Personally I don't know if they actually replaced them or not, however, the work order says they were. What matters to me is that:

A. It was covered by warranty
B. It feels and sounds much, much better.
