Default power shifting

Can anyone tell me why when i powershift from 1st to 2nd at over 5000 rpm my clutch grinds. Is there anyway to get that to stop. I can get it into gear but it grinds. I have a 97 tib 1.8L.

This has been covered before. It's your synchros. Your speed isn't matching your rpms. You just have to shift nicer. I have the same problem. I WOULD REALLY LIKE IT IF SOMEONE FIGURED OUT A REMEDY FOR THIS!!!

luckily, i never had this problem, but one thing you can try is double-clutching. it'll take you an extra second to shift, but it might eliminate the grind.

1997 1.8L's uses single cone syncronizers. Hyundai replaced them with double cone syncronsizers in later trannies, and on the 2.0L tranny.

Hyundai did offer to replace/rebuild the trannies for some folks who had syncronizer failure, under warranty (HMA did this for my dad). But your warranty is long up.

My 1999 does this on occasion, and bleeding the clutch every 6 months and completely flushing/replacing the fluid every 12 months seems to keep the problem away (but I've got the dual cone syncronizers). You can try it, you should flush/replace your clutch fluid every 12 months or 12000 miles anyway.

If that doesn't work your only option would be to ditch your tranny in favor of a newer tranny with the dual cone syncronizers, or have yours rebuilt with the new syncro's...but just swapping it out would be cheaper.

I believe the new 03 tib 4cyc 5spd uses triple cone on the first and second gear. and double cone on 3/4/5
