Default 2.0 vs 1.8 tranny

Is there any difference in gear ratios between the 5 spd transmisions?

Yes, I think there is. I'll have to check www.hmaservice.com or my books when I get home to confirm.

The 5th gear itself is weak. It has a tendancy to crack/loose teeth under high HP/torque motors. (i.e. Forced Induction Motors).

Is there any practical option for upgrading the tranny at this point? What do the guys in Korea do?
