I had pulled into the car wash bay and was set for a day's hard work. I had just replenished my cleaning supplies, bought new pads for the 10,000RPM buffer, drank an amp and was psyched about getting my car looking spiffy and new again after this hard winter and the severe weather we've had this week. Those who know me, know I get a boner from the feel of a freshly cleaned, clay-barred, polished, waxed, steam cleaned, armor-all'd, windex'd, car with all the chrome polished and the engine bay cleaned with silicone lube. Oh that's a wonderful feel and smell too.

So anyways... I rolled up my window in the wash bay and then I hear a click, followed by a kerchunk coming from the window. I looked at the window and said "kerchunk?". So I pushed the window down button and the window went crashing to the bottom of the door.

So there goes my plans to wash my car. I took my door apart and found that the window regulator cable had snapped. I remembered that I had just shut my door at walmart with the window 1/2 down, which is something I never do. Also, prior to that, the window had been making a click noise when it goes all the way up and all the way down. This should be a warning sign for anyone reading this thread.

I went to the high tech junk yard which tells you exactally where the car you're looking for is located. All the cars are up on blocks at a great working height. All 4 cylindar engines cost $126 + tax. You pick your parts and pay at the front. I'm telling you this place is bad ass.

So I found a 98 tibby with cloth interior. The windows were smashed out and the regulator was gone. So I went and looked up other hyundais. I checked a few elantras, they have different window regulators. I checked a couple of sonatas and their window regulators are different. Apparently we have the only frameless windows that are made by Hyundai. So I remembered that our cars were made by the same guy who made the Eclipse. I checked 3 Eclipses and they were all manual windows, not the power windows, so there goes that idea, however the windows are about the same dimensions.

Ok, so no biggie, I spent 4 hours at the junk yard looking for parts that were not available. I can wait until tomorrow and get Hyundai to replace the window regulator under my bumper-to-bumper 10 year 100,000 warranty, unless they dont' have parts, in which case my car is not secure for 3 days.

So to be on the safe side, I checked my video records of the other junk yards in town. If the tibby has the window up, then it's got a window regulator.

Out of all of those, There's only 1 tiburon and the single part that I needed is one of the very few parts which you cannot see in the video. GRRRRR.

I'm frustrated. The damn dealer needs to stay open on sundays and quit calling me every week about the new Genesis's that they get in until they get a I4 Track in Black.

My bank sold it to me for $1,000 when I got my 4.5% interest loan.

i love those yards. i've been there! i feel like i'm in grand theft auto heaven when i go. i love the 90's hyundais they have. raiding them is so much fun. i wish i could take them and rebuild them all. i really want to buy a used engine for $150 for my supercharger project but no time and no money...

i would buy a 90's accent and beta swap/turbo the hell out of it like mwood's project. and an elantra sedan just to turbo it and use it as the "family" sleeper.

why your car is so new and it keeps breaking on you i don't understand. my tiburon has been DD beater since 2002 and nothing. my dad's elantra window went bad too. the cable got stuck into the motor. the motors are real easy to replace, but they should not go bad!!! so when someone asks me if 90's Hyundais are good cars, i am forced to tell them the only thing good about them is the engine.

if you need anything dtn, i'll be happy to go to the yard up the street and find some of these things in case you cannot.

DTN, as your pulling the window out of the car there should be two plastic pieces that are bolted to the door. One at the front end of the door near the mirror and one to the back. Unbolt these and turn them upside down and put your window back in, they will hold it at just the right height to get a good seal against the rubber. Then remove the hammer.

This method also allows you to easily remove the window and place in the trunk for those sunny moments you want the windows down!

Dude, you are something else. You take videos when you go to the junkyard? That's a great idea. I usually just get lucky cause the tiburon sold well in Ontario, and there are always at least 4-5.
