Default Plastidipping rims

I read this thread about people who have plstidipped their emblems and I was wondering what you guys thought about the idea of plastidipping rims

Would it hold up or flake off pretty easily? It seems to be different than regular spray paint so thats why Im wondering about it

i did it to my jeep emblem and it still looks great, but I can't really comment to the durability as its a rear emblem..

Why would you want to plasti-dip your rims vs. painting them? The reason I plasti-dipped the emblem was just so I didn't have to remove it from the car to do it.

Whether you paint or plasti-dip the rims, if you curb them, they will chip.

Wheel paint holds up very well, Plasti-Dip should hold up just as well with a prepped surface.

The feel of using plasti-dip to me feels like you are literally spraying plastic on something and then it creates a rubberized/plastic shell around it. I didn't prep the smooth chrome emblem at all and have been through numerous car washes since then. I did my rear emblem back in November 2010 and it still looks the same.

A coworker JUST did his white on his red S2000. I think it look awesome. Couple things to watch for. When you paint, you'll need a bunch of coats. Be sure you get the sides of the spokes really well. He coated a bunch of times, and still didn't get perfect coverage on the inside. Next is that they can get dirty easily (especially with tire shine). It's pretty hard to clean as there's little bumps and pores in the plastidip. Which brings up the next thing, is it's not completely smooth. Looks awesome, but feels a little strange. You don't notice it at all from 3+ feet away. It's very durable, but if you mess with the edges at all (edge of the rim, inside by the lug nut), it can peel pretty easily. But only where there's an edge; everything else is really durable.

He'll be powdercoating in a few months anyhow, but this was just a temporary fix.
