About a month ago, 100,000 of us were left without power for 24hours and no heat in our homes, in the toronto west end . My house was down to 9celcius (I'm guessing 40 F). Apparently, the cause was a flooded hydro station. Anyway, the saga continues!!! The power went out at 11:30pm (about 1.5 hrs ago) and it's beginning to feel like a month ago: power's not gonna come back soon!!! I was working on the tib - giving second coat of red paint on the needles in the cluster, and I was just about to go outside put thread sealer on the sandwich plate!!!!! FRUSTRATING!!!! Instead, I'm in bed browsing using my cell phone.

I've been feeling so upset at this city, lately!

Move to Mississauga, we've got plenty of power out here.

But seriously, where are you that this is happening? I hadn't heard about it.

this world is much to greedy for better more efficient power so power outages will never stop. same thing with my house. we were the D.C. suburbs 30 years ago. our backyard was literally deep woods. deer ran free. nobody bothered my parents. now there are houses and townhouses. they hooked up our power lines with the townhouses and boom poweroutages every time. we have some shady criminals in the back there, along with some dumb neighbors.

i need to launch some dogsh-- in their yard again one of these nights.

Do you have a set of warm clothes? Lantern or flashlight with readily available batteries? Did you drain your pipes from the basement to minimize damage inside the home (depending if you have a well or public water)? Gas stove? Now is the time to make that pot roast in the oven. Bake a loaf of bread.

If you live in a cold climate you should always have a backup plan for these things. Nothing is 24x7x365.

Bu Bye. So long. See ya now. Watch your head, be all you can be, be aware.

Good luck.

^^ LOL. The good news is that power's back up, this morning when I woke up. But power outages are becoming so common (the worst being the one 1 month ago), that I'm better prepared now: I leave a trickle of water running in the basement, wear extra clothing, I carry candles, flashlight, batteries, ... (my power-outage emergency set reminds me of DTN's trunk lmao.gif

I really like Mississauga! For the most part, newly paved roads, wider roads, much less traffic congestion, plenty of parking, no hassle with the garbage (here we have to manage containers for recycling, green bin, yard waste, and garbage). Property taxes are also way higher, water bill is now higher to take into account new prices we now have to pay for the garbage. We can't produce more garbage than what fits the bin, unless you purchase some labels and affix them to each extra garbage bag.

I live on College/Dufferin area. Here's an article describing last night's outage:

I'm considering moving to Mississauga, especially that I work there.

Man, sounded nice how it was before; a serene feeling! You and your family probably feel like your space has been compromised/invaded. I can understand that! It never bothered me to live in population-densed areas, but not so much, anymore. I live in a semi-detached, and my neighbours are these music students. Sometimes, late at night, they'll be playing the piano, guitars, .... Let me tell you, I can hear that piano as if it was in my living room. Anyway, great idea, launch the dogs to make sure you keep order fing02.gif

fury it was so serene you wouldn't believe!! my father bought his house because it was in the suburbs. now, it's as urban as possible. there's graffiti everywhere in my neighborhood now. there are certain people here you feel uncomfortable just being around. this isn't the "America" all our western and southerner friends and nascar lovers feel it is. they don't see what's coming to them. same story goes with the American Indians, the same thing is happening here except instead of improving it's degrading. i've seen it with my own eyes over the past 10 years. if you agree that humanity is the highest form of life in much of infinite space and are lucky as hell to be here and to love & cherish life, then you will agree that people here don't even deserve the classification of being a "human". then again, nature never said human was a good element it just exists. the greeks sought purest perfection in their beliefs and societal structure. parakeets have more respect for life than these urban "invaders" that includes all races alike.

that has little to do with blackouts, but talk about being upset at the city.
