repacking a wheel bearing
anyone know (step by step) how to repack a bearing? Any special tools? Is it done with the wheel on or off?
I think one or both of my rear bearings is about to go. They are a bit noisy, and I'm hoping repacking them may help. Unfortunately, I have never done this before.
thanks in advance,
ac

If they are about to go, re-packing them will not help. Bearing go south because of damage...if you just repack them, they will be quiet for maybe 1000 miles tops, then start to get noisy again.
Unless you just want to try re-packing to try to save some dinero...
HMASERIVCE is worthless for this..they only state
I have just always use my hands. Put a large wad of bearing grease in your hand, then press the front side of the bearing into the grease against your palm. rotate the whole assembly to get grease all the way around/through the bearings..when the grease goes through the bearing and out the back side all the way around....they are packed.
