Effing Windows Vista
so i just bought a new comp today and it came with a "premium" version of windows vista, which, as it turns out, uses almost 1/2 a gig of memory, and all I can tell that it does over XP is look a bit prettier(for people here who don't know a lot about computers, that's a lot of memory to use on just running your computer).
now I'm not really angry about that, but I'm a fan of some older, classic games (Starcraft, Diablo2 anyone?), and i go to install them and vista doesn't support them, so I've emailed Blizzard and Microsoft to let them know about the compatibility issues, so now I have this machine that's basically a step back from my 7 year old one that I was using until a patch or something comes out... and yeah I know it was my tough luck buying a new computer that happened to coincide with the vista launch, so thats what I get...
maybe I should have put the money towards some engine mods tongue.gif
on a side rant, my roommate is moving out and now I have to spend double in order to stay in the same place, which means less money to spend on my poor tibby*cries*
anybody need a roommate???

Can you take the Vista out and install XP, my new laptop came with Vista but that didn't last long till I wiped it out and went with 2000, I love win 2k, my laptop has been on for two months without a restart and it never gave me any problems like XP and Vista does.
It all depends on how you set everything up.
I have had XP on my working machine since it was in Beta1 stage and never had problems. As for Vista I was running it since Beta 2 and RC1 and never had problems.
At the moment I am running Vista Ultimate on my working machine since it was released to the partners begining December and it works perfectly even running games (mind you I do not play older games). Try to get all of the new driver releases (especially for Graphic card) and that should solve problems you might have wink1.gif

There are known issues with video cards not being compatible with Vista, and Direct X having to come out with an update. They know about the problems, the gaming and video card companies just haven't had time to fix Microsoft's F ^. Vista supposedly has a few navigation tools that MS added, but other than that it's a makeover of the interface.
I've heard it won't run on anything that has less than a Gig of RAM

hehe..Well im getting my new laptop on thursday, just so it has the Vista version and all other features..I know it does eat a lot of memory but oh well..i dont think i will be playing games on that and if it does become pain in the ass i can always install WinXP wink1.gif
As for your issue..there isnt much u can do but just wait... wink1.gif maybe u shouldve asked the ppl if vista will be compatible and etc..shouldve just got the windows XP wink1.gif

Yepp all of this is true, But it is not just a makeover. Vista has been built on a totaly new code foundation while 2000 and XP were built on Windows NT code base. So Vista does not suffer on some of the relic problems which were present in previous versions.
Sure it does have some baby problems but thats always with the new things like that. Hell even 2000 and XP had their problems when released (and some were even bigger than issues Vista has at the moment). It is not to be forgotten that MS has included generic drivers inside Vista for almost every available hardwer today which has most definitely been a gigantic job. Sure does drivers are not optimized for each specific device but are stable and are making OS stable which I can not say for some of the manufacturers drivers available.
One should not forget that all of the manufacturers had all versions of Vista even before those were released to the testers and/or big clients so in my opinion if anyone has been slow it is them who did not move quickly enough despite MS changed Vista's release dates several times.

There have been a lot of issues with the new release of Vista. There aren't to many drivers made for it on all levels..But this is like many other new OS's just like when XP came out..
It will get better eventually but I don't plan on upgrading to vista until most of the issues are solved.
