I started searching this forum for braking problems but I really haven't found my answers.

I was driving full speed the other night, about to miss a turn so I stepped on my brake very hard so I can make the turn. I noticed the brakes suddenly emptied, meaning I have to step further and the pedal seems lighter...

After a while, I got nervous and tested the brake. It was harder now and doesn't stop immediately the way it used to be. I have to step the brakes a little harder to brake.

Further, it seems to get stucked for a while and I need to step more of the gas pedal to move from a stop position. I feel the tib is really heavy now.

I checked the fluid and seems I do not have a major leak. Any suggestions where should I start first?

I think my tib has an ABS because of the idiot light "ABS" in the dash.

PS, anyone can explain what could have possibly done wrong by braking so hard? I mean, why would the hyundai engineers design a big engine and a faster-than-normal car but the breaks get bad in just ONE hard brake?

check the connection between your brake booster and the engine. It is a vacuume assist booster, if the hose came unhooked (or the booster blew out) Then you are running unassisted brakes (very heavy) and you have a vacuume leak in the intake that is making your car run lean.

no, I am pretty sure they are way overrated for the amount of brake pressure you can possible apply. Hyundai may be cheap, but they are not stupid to put substandard parts into the car that can get your killed (like the brakes)

Age is what kills brake boosters. Heat, moisture in the air, and either overuse or a lack of use. There are lots of rubber seals in them, they dry out, crack, and can eventually fail.

Same with the line that sucks the air out of the booster.

does your steering wheel shakes from side to side when you slightly press brake pedal at 80+ mph?

a bit offtopic, but. Is your ABS light on everytime? Does it go off in few seconds after you start your engine?
