Yesterday I got a fix-it ticket for having a modified exhaust. I think the cop just wanted to pull me over and gave that to me as a reason. I was pulling out of a parking lot and there was a dip so I was taking it slow. I noticed the cop that was about a block away. As I was pulling out onto the street he was turning onto the same street. There was somemore dips so I was not driving fast or reving my engine hard. That's why I think he pulled me over either because of how my car looks or to see if I was doing anything bad, lol.

Anyways now I have to go to the CHP to see about getting it fixed. I know that the law here in California says that it can't be over 95dbA. What I have is a Dynamax Turbo muffler, with a 4" tip on it. 2.5" custom cat-back exhaust, header and CAI. What I am thinking of doing is putting my stock header back on.

I wanted to know if anyone has any advice or some help so that I could get it signed off without having to redo my exhaust.

why don't you just find out if it IS actually above 95dba...if so, then fix it, because you're breaking the law. if not, tell the cop to fvck off because you didn't do anything illegal smile.gif

95 dB for whole RPM range?

How that cop measured dB of your exhaust by his ears?

he prolly just bored and you were a good target to take up a little of his time. id have it tested to see and take proof to the CHP and they should dismiss it! Good Luck

Yeah I think I should just get it tested before I start to change out my stuff. The header won't be hard to replace the stock because of how I had them install it. I just have to goto the CHP and ask them where a place I could go to get the sound level tested.

Here is a link to the vehicle code that states the db level:
DMV Vehicle Code - Modification of Exhaust Systems

I'm not to worried about the $10 ticket, its just the fact that he had to pull me over when I wasn't doing anything. He was also saying that I can't do this kind of stuff like they used to do with the older cars.
Then after all was said and done he said he liked my car

Yeah, he seemed like he was just doing his job. Get it checked out and see if you're within the limits. If not then you have to get it changed.

I agree though, he was prolly bored and saw a modified exhaust that sounded illegal. Nothing wrong with that. If you weren't doing anything illegal you have nothing to worry about right??

I wouldn't just blow off the ticket though. My girl got a fix it ticket for a tail light and I fixed it, but the lazy a$$ never took care of it and now I'm stuck with a F*ing $150 bill for non-compliance.

I don't know how the law is over there, but over here, a cop just can't pull you over for your car being too loud. He needs a legitimate reason, like pulling you over for speeding or expired plates. Check into your local laws to see if the cop did anything wrong.

Yeah... check your laws. Here they can pull you over for just an exhaust, especially in town, because of noise ordinances and the like. I just stay off the throttle or ride around in neutral. I've had cops literally follow me for miles waiting for me to do something stupid in my vehicles.
