Only if the phrase was "I need a Limited Slip Differential"
but since you spell out the word when you say it you say "L" phonetically "EL"
and since it has a vowel sound you use an.

What is funny is that I usually doesn't make that mush mistakes in English AND I don't know any English grammar rules, I learned in listening TV shows ... my native language is French and I do a lot more errors in French (that's quite a complicated language, I know that all the teachers I had made a grammar error at some point).
