Spamming Posts
Curious as to how we have been so successful in avoiding them. I am a member of a karaoke forum and they get them all the time. Is there software in place to keep it in check? Just wondering if I can give them any suggestions.
1. Email verification
2. Introduction posts mandatory
3. Mods who keep an eye out 24/7. I've blocked 2 within 20 mins of them signing up(screennames like "makemoneynow236"). Change their password and the email address on file and they will have to redo the registration and it isn't really worth it to them if they get busted so fast.

The required intro post is what gets 99% of them though. Especially since it's not subforum #1 that they post in.
You should have them check out the support sites for their forum software.

^ ^ pretty much, but it comes with looking at the problem, thinking of logical ways to prevent it, and compromising so that new members don't find it impossible to post. We had SO MANY people who would join and NOT READ the plain text that told them they had to post an introduction before they could post anywhere else. I'm sure RED got dozens of PMs asking why they couldn't post. I think it was Java (or a forum tech) who came up with the RD Greeter so people would see to post in the Introduction forum. We still get people saying "I can't post!" but it's dwindled down quite a bit.
We still get plenty of members who think it's stupid or rediculous for us to require an intro post, but now you know why.

yeah... I got dozens, but you're on the main page showing 27,000 posts so everyone came to you with the question.
Some members whine and complain about the rules and strict procedures we have here... while others post threads in amazement of how well we maintain our forums. I don't see why people can't understand our rules and why we enforce them.
