Just working through and trying to upgrade all the modifications. Its been a challenge, but I'm getting there slowly. I'd like to help in any way possible. Let me know if you need something. I have all the tools available. Out of curiosity, what platform are you going with? Not that it matters. SQL is SQL cross platform, same with the rest. of the web server software.

I think there is some unnecessary fear of the unknown here. I was very happily rocking Windows 98 on my home PC until XP was almost beyond the range of active support from Microsoft.
I mostly like XP better when there is a difference. I suspect the site upgrade to newer software would be a similar story.
Is it possible to do a trial period? I'm sure it would be a PITA, but run it for a week and then run another poll to see who likes it? (just an idea)

No trial period since the new software will overwrite everything. I took a back up of the forum before upgrading the test server, so I can revert if need be, but it'll be a HUGE pain to revert it since I'll have to recode the mods again.
DTN...its not the SQL stuff that has to be rewrote. Its the .php files that run the core functionality of the site. I'm not letting anyone touch it unless they know how to code .php properly.
Fury....I'm working on doing something a little different for the Tutorials. They will still be there, just in a different way. smile.gif

Yeah I screwed up my virtual machine install a few times working with that php. It can be a bit tricky. With a VM you can just hit the save button and when it screws up you click restore and 30 seconds later you are back at the save point.

Ah, perfect! That was my only objection. So if the tutorials still stay and are accessible (maybe in a different way, but are still there), then my vote is Yes! Go ahead and upgrade smile.gif
Thanks, Visionz!!

skimmed the first page. Regardless of any other reasons, it needs to be updated because of security. Feature are nice but don't do anything helpful if the site gets hacked and half the users get a virus. We had some plugins back on rdtiburon one time that caused just that. The chat room there(years ago) caused my server to get blacklisted for a week when a hole in the software was exploited to use it for spamming.
Security is most important.
