Sexism on HA
I've been noticing a pretty heavy amount of sexism on HA, most notably in the featured ride contests. I had a hunch, so I sat down and sorted through the votes from the Fall and Summer photo contests. Here's what I found:
Here are the raw numbers for the fall and summer contests. I've broken down each contestant's votes into male and female votes. The female contestants are highlighted.
Now if you graph this data, it looks like this:
The male contestants got mainly male votes, and the female contestants got roughly half-and-half. HOWEVER! There were a total of 414 male voters, and only 52 female voters. I adjusted the numbers to simulate an even number of male and female voters. Here's how I did it:
In the first contest, 77% of the votes were from males, and 23% of the votes were from females. I multiplied each male vote by 0.23, and each female vote by 0.77 - when the votes were tallied up, there were 26.8 male voters and 26.8 female voters.
In the second contest, 90.5 percent of the votes were from males, and 9.5% of the votes were from females. I multiplied each male vote by 0.095 and each female vote by 0.905 - when the votes were tallied up there were 29.9 male voters and 29.9 female voters.
This balanced the fact that there are more men on here than women, thus only showing the voting patterns between men and women.
And if you graph the corrected data, it looks like this:
Pretty interesting, huh? These photo contests seem to be less and less about the quality of the photo and more about the quality of the shooter. Hell, almost every single vote for my accent in the summer contest was from an accent owner.
I don't really know how to counter this sort of thing, I'm just putting the data out there for y'all to think about.
*edit* Busted picture links, my bad.
*edit2* No I still can't use computers

Yeah, but I agree with the point involved. It sucks that's it's more about sex/type of car then it is about photo content pertaining to the required elements. This is half the reason I tend not to enter these most of the time. There are way to many Gen Coupe drivers here now. Us smaller guys don't stand a chance.

Cry me a river
You boys get mad when the girls all vote for each other. We're out numbered here by alot even though there is alot of girls here. As some of the ladies have mentioned before, we have to look out for each other and give you boys a little competition.

^ I agree. You guys should be happy that theres girls on here that visit and post regularly. Theres more here than other forums from what I can see. Unless you boys prefer to have a sausage party only than the girls can leave if thats your wish?

you need more ________ in your life.
a. sex
b. porn
c. hobbies
d. all of the above in one
The girls do tend to recruit more votes than guys do.
also, I hope "Penny" was in your list of females, since he's a man in the Navy.
There's nothing to "counter" except to build a vehicle worth being voted for.
