Couldnt have said it better myself roller. I got this mostly because of the turbo. This way I will be running about 50 degrees cooler at the block which will then in turn cool the oil a decent amount. Overall it will help to keep temps down and help to increase the life of the engine.

ummm

ok guys..
im busy as hell at work... so i really cant get into detail..

This will help.. slightly..

Remember.. the radiator and fans do the cooling.. NOT the thermostat.

Also..
For the record..
The FANS turn on at 200
Thermostat opens up at either 170 or 180

The korean thermostat (yes thats what your buying.. not a "performance" one) opens up at about 150.

Random and me thought about this a couple of years ago.

Although it opens early.. and yes hot coolant will start reaching the rad earlier..
The heat will keep building..

Eventually.. the coolant temp will reach 200 and the fans will kick on. They will turn off at 180.. and the fans will turn off... then they will heat back up to 200.. the fans will turn on..

Get the picture?

I really dont see a benefit to this..

Your not really cooling your engine.. atleast during normal driving and racing.

If you dont believe me..

Time your fans..
Start timing once your fan turns on (it will)
Clock the time between when the fan turns on.. and when it turns off..

Next.. switch the thermostat..
Do the same thing

I bet my last Type R sticker that you will get identical to close times..

You can do this while at idle..

that would be the best bet.......

^^EXACTLY! This doesn't cool your engine more than if you had your US spec thermostat in, just earlier... I was thinking what Jaws posted but didn't know how to express it in words. Good thing he did....

What gets me is that this is just the Korean thermostat. LMFAO! HAHAHA, Sharkracing owneD you!

make your fans turn on earlier?

Why?

180 is fine.. its perfect operating temp.

IF anything.. get better fans so they can cool faster. The slimfans from summit are perfect.
You can also get a perfomance rad.. larger rad = more coolant in the rad for longer cooling..

I have both.. so i have no troubles..

The thermostat really wont help though guys.. sorry. When you receive the thermostat check the plastic wrapping... does it have the HMA logo on it? Maybe the H logo and the Kia logo?

Im willing to bet patreezy's car thats its the korean one...

BTW.. Oil cooler would kick serious arse if your turboed..

If your stock.. i dont see a point to cooling your system,... unless your in a traffic infested city...

mine?
hell yea..

I used the special zip ties that they have.. install was like no more than an hour.

I hooked mine up to a relay (because of the haltec) and also to a seperate switch. Incase im stuck in traffic.. i can manually turn them on, and leave them running while im stuck in LAs wonderful congested freeways.

Random is nutty.. he made custom brackets for his back when he had his tibby.

I have the slim line fans too. I made brackets for them also laugh.gif: . I am going to setup a manual switch override this weekend so when I am at the autoX track all day I can leave the fans running while I am sitting. With the manual over-ride and the new thermostat it will be keeping the engine cooler.

1 slimline fan = 2 stock fans..

Just incase some of you wonder how powerful they are.

They push twice as much air as stock. So that will DEFINANTLY cool things down.
The thermostat wont help much though man.. sorry... doesnt hurt to try it though.

When the car is on.. once the thermostat opens.. it stays open. Coolant temps dont drop below 170-180 once the car is running. Remember.. after that, temps are determined by the fans and the radiator. Thermo plays no part in it,... cause well.. it wont close due to the temps. It will stay open whether you have the US or Korean one.

good luck though man.

Worth a try. Never heard of anyone else trying it so....... Anyway I have the dual slimline fans and let me say they usually dont run for more than 30 secs or so. The stock fans were wired so that one came on with the engine temp and ac and the other turned on with the ac only. I have both mine wired to the engine temp one. When those babies kick on it sounds like you have a turbin under your hood.
