With two manufacturers remaining in the World Rally Championship as a result of expensive regulations and tidy rules, the F.I.A. has created a cheaper form of rallying called S2000 class. Incase you haven't heard, F.I.A. organization has gone mad putting a bunch of unnecessary wierd and wild restrictions including tons of penalties and whack rules on the official World Rally motorsport, for instance changing the calendar, getting rid of historic rallies, and limiting three car teams to two car teams.

The new class of car will not include any form of boost. I heard the F.I.A. getting rid of turbos first in 2003, but did not believe it! Well, it's true, say goodbye to turbocharged rally cars!

"The S2000 class was conceived by the FIA in 1997 as a new Regional rally formula to make rallying more affordable by replacing the ultra-expensive vehicles derived from the WRC rules."

There will be no more 300hp turbocharged-intercooled rally cars. There will only be high octane fueled rally cars with four wheel drive that will act more like Kit cars than today's rally cars. They will be 280 horsepower. I have seen videos of these cars and that loss of 20 horsepower and no Turbo really isn't anything special to watch. Drifting and high speeds are going to vanish. Good news is Peugeot refuse to join any F.I.A. oriented event, so they will only be competing in RC (Eurpean/Asian-Pacific) oriented rallies not the official one. Cheers to Peugeot!

Say goodbye to World Rally Cars as we know for good.

It was bound to happen. Those of you old enough to remember the Groupe B rally cars (Lancia Delta S4, Audi Quattro Sport, Porsche 959, Ford RS200. peugoet 205) will know that right before Group B was killed off, the cars had gotten far too fast. It had gotten to the point where the cars could out accelerate even the Driver's ability to look to the next corner. The end of Group B was in 1985 when the Lancia Delta S4 driven by Toivenen crashed and burned, killing both the driver and his navigator.

Today's cars, while less powerful that those monsters of yesteryear, are just as fast as Group B had gotten. With their precision awd handling, quick spooling turbos, and enough electronics to fly a 747 safely, the cars have gotten out of hand. People were going to be dying soon, and not only the drivers.

While I do not like some of the new rules that the FIA has put in place (I liked the history Rallys and nighttime stages) they are trying to make their changes for the best. Both for the drivers and the spectators. By slowing the rallies and running them during the day, not only can more people come out to see these specticals, both the spectators and the crews will be that much safer when they race.

Personally. I wish they would outlaw All wheel drive cars. The Rear Wheel Drive Rally cars of years past were so much more fun to watch. Cars like the Lancia Stratos will never come again.

Contact Blacktibs for F2 Bumpers!!! I LOVE mine and to this day still cannot believe I have one. Such a difference.

The reason rallying wasn't big is because they only run one car at a time and what's the fun in seeing one car driving around? Everything! Each car had its team, each car endured all kinds of wicked weather and stages and mix that in with a Turbocharger, full crew, professional drivers, and Monte Carlo in the snow then you've got your late night show.

Oh man... They took out night rallying, canceled stages due to weather, shortened events, two-car teams, got rid of the WRC legends... you name it they took it away.

R.I.P Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto... God damn he was such a young good man... always happy, always smiling. 1986, right after having a succesful year, one corner lost traction and his Lancia S4 drove off the cliff right into a tree and when it hit the whole car blew and fire raging. By the time emergency crew had reached the site, it was too late, everything was blazing. It is said he high octane gas tanks blew up upon impact. Poor guys... There's no explanation to why he went off, he had the flu during the drive, but it could have been a mechanical failure... all that was left of the wreck was the rusted frame.

At that point, Group B rallying was put to its misery.

A recent death was Michael "Beef" Park, who was Markko Martin's Co-Driver who was killed when the F.I.A. pushed back the WRC GB calendar from the tradition. The drivers were used to wet and muddy conditions, but the set back to August from November made for even faster driving in dense trees. Markko slid sideways right into a tree where Park later died at the hospital from injuries.

I think WRC Rallying was just fine until the F.I.A. began to mingle with it. I think another reason for the lack of attention would be because by splitting the cars from three car teams to two, they got rid of Tommi Makinen, Didier Auriol, Juha Kankkunen, and Colin McRae as well as more legendary drivers. It's just simply going to lose its emotion and become the boring rallying nobody pays attention to.

The reason Hyundai didn't get any recognition and isn't known for rallying Tiburons in the WRC is because Alister McRae (Colin McRae's little bro) slid too wide on the finishing stage of the last rally in the championship. On the second day (there's only 3 days of racing per rally) He said he knew he was going to win, the car drove as best it could drive, went too fast and slid into a bank and the rear of the car just crumbled apart including the bumper and all axles. I have a small clip of it happening. If it wasn't for Alister's mishap, Hyundai would be crowned F2 King. As a result, Renault won the chamnpionship 102 Renault 94 Hyundai. Had Alister not hit the bank, Hyundai would have recieved the points needed to become first place.

Well damn! Just like NASCAR. Too regulated for real competition. Of course there will be dangers. All sports have their dangers. If it gets too regulated, there's no fun and worse, no competition.

yeah exactly! what's with all the bs! it's no longer a sport it's just rules and restrictions. sure if the ball goes out of the field the clock stops. in football, i've seen so many bad calls like the Washington Redskins losing to the Panthers and then the aftershow admittting the player's knees were touching the touchdown with the ball. that stuid call cost the skins the game. it's just retarded.

Here's a little Video on group B night rallying in Monte Carlo for you all in .mov format. look at how many people it attracted and how much business it brought. It's a great video, even shows Celica GT-4 and Ford Escort Cosworth. Those were the good days, and unfortunately no longer exist.

Monte Carlo Group B Nuit

I just read new news regarding this situation. The WRC comission has expected S2000 to kick off in 2008 and WRC to last no longer than 5 years because they will make regulations that will limit all cars in order to attract more manufacturers. If Hyundai returns, they will not have a Turbo WRC, they will have an S2000 car. I hope they aren't that stupid as to ruin their reputation and waste their time with that.
